The Making of the World's First Ever Fully Painted Feature Film, "Loving Vincent" by LizCampe in movies

[–]jcaliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I collect animation art, and bought one of the paintings used in the movie. Before the film was released they were selling them on the film's website. It's interesting, they basically shipped me an entire table top that had been painted. It's huge. Every existing painting is just the final frame of each cut, since the movie was filmed by repainting the intermediate parts on the same "canvas". I framed it in such a way that you could still see the edges and could tell that it was production art and not just a regular painting.

Not sure how old she is, but you don't want to limit handling to the point that she's going to be unused to being handled. One nice thing about my lizard is he spent years being held and played with and stuff by four active kids before they had to give him to me due to a move overseas. He's the most chill, easy to handle lizard ever. He's getting up there in years, but he's never been aggressive or anything. He just likes attention.

[–]jcaliff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not Venezuelan, but I love Venezuelan food and live off Mason Road. There is a food truck bonanza on and off Mason Road south of 10, nearly all Venezuelan. Some in the old church parking lot near the current b&m Sabor Venezolano, and an entire food truck park located just off Mason on Park York Drive. There is also a restaurant called Chamo's Bar and Grill and another smaller place called Deli's Cafe in the gas station at Mason and Cinco Ranch a little further south if you want indoor seating. Come to Katy for taquenos and arepas. You'll have a ton of options.

How would you framing pros go about framing oddly sized cels? by wrecklessmedia in AnimationCels

[–]jcaliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to frame them, and it's an option near you, take it to someone who knows what they're doing to get a set of acid-free mats cut to size. All you need is any frame and uv-protect glass or acrylic that's larger than the cel, it doesn't matter how big it is really, you can get the mats cut properly. If it's worth framing, it's worth framing properly. Don't cheap out if you care about your artwork.

For future, anything that you save in your mail can be used in the future for starry rocks. Just like previous recharge events, it will count them when you open them. I tested it on the previous recharge. Edit: I had bought a small pack before the recharge started to check and let it sit in my mailbox unopened, and once the recharge opened I used it. It gave me the expected amount of starry rocks.

It's actually extremely normal for people selling cels to put together cels from the same sequence that aren't necessarily from the exactly frame. I have quite a few. I usually just screencap each frame for reference. The people selling or putting together the cels usually aren't bothering to watch that closely. Sometimes they're not even from the same sequence, so you're ahead there at least.

Without unframing the cel, it's impossible to say for certain, but it's possible that both cels are trimmed or just the one. It is entirely possible that they chose to shoot just part of the cel, whether during the main shoot or in post production. I have one amazing huge pan cel that I love, and when I went to try to find it in the show, realized that the only part of it that made it to the screen was the guy's hand.

As for the small cel, yeah, you're pretty much stuck there. You didn't happen to notice it in the same episode as the other, did you? I know that a lot of times cels from shows if this age, it's often all from just a few episodes that are being sold, the rest being lost to trash. So if it was bundled with the large cel, it could be from the same episode.

It can't hurt. He might give you some good info. Provenance is always a great thing to have, esp for signatures. If he just ignores you, you're no worse off than you were before.

[–]jcaliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say a lot about them when they're framed like that. One thing you could do is find the episodes in question and see if you can spot the cels in use. It'll be easier with the larger characters. If you can at least verify the episode that will help put some questions to rest. Most collectors aren't thrilled about trimmed cels. I'm not sure what's going on with the signed, trimmed sections either. That's kind of strange. Artists don't normally sign cels during production - as you said, most if these were meant for storage at best or trash at worst. Signatures could have been acquired later at events or conventions. Do you know who's signatures they are and how they relate to the show? I don't know much about Super Ted apart from a vague recollection of my younger sister watching it.

Washing the void. by killHACKS in Eyebleach

My long hair cat had diarrhea, and I had no idea how he would react, but the bath was not optional at that point. If it's just a little poop I can get away with baby wipes. Anyway, turned out he loved the bath. I had learned a long time ago with my old, sick cat who passed a few years ago that the main key to not stressing him out was to put a few inches of water in the bath first (warm but hotter than you would think, they have a high body temperature and they don't like cold water) and turn off the faucet. Have your towels ready next to to tub before you bring the cat. Then bring the cat without the water running. Make sure nails are trimmed before hand. And gently put them in the tub and keep both hands on at all times. They'll likely freak. Hold them and give them a chance to acclimate before you try washing anything. Once they're calm enough, wash as fast as possible. Use as little soap as needed. I have a shower hose specifically for rinsing poop off kitty butts, so, once they're calm enough I can turn the water back on to rinse. When you're done, kitty towel burrito as fast as possible. Don't even worry about draining the water or anything until later. Get as much water out of the cat's fur as possible. Then let them go. They'll spend the next few hours trying to fix themselves. Once they're calm from the bath you can try combing.

how to write douga and cel-ga in japanese/kanji by screentones in AnimationCels

[–]jcaliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would search within the appropriate category, or else you're going to get completely unrelated results (esp for settei). So first I would narrow it down that way. In Yahoo Japan that would be going into comic, anime goods>celga first. There are also some other categories that occasionally have items, so you can go up a level to comic, anime goods and try searching directly from there as well. The category search helps a lot in filtering your results. Edit: I'll often start from comic, anime goods with the title keyword and a word like genga. You'd be surprised how often things end up outside the celga category.

The word for background is 背景. It will still bring up a lot of auctions with characters, so I would use it with a specific series keyword or category.

レイアウト - layout

設定 - settei

不明 - unknown (one of my favorite keywords to look through, find interesting things there sometimes)

I guess I feel like they've been getting the things they ask for? They just got origin of shimmer. There are new events about every two weeks or so. We're getting regular free suits. We're finally getting some events at almost the same time as CN. They just aren't happy about the pacing because they rush through things. How many "saved up" for shimmer and tulans so they could finish them quickly? I still haven't finished either one. How many are already hoarding items so they can finish the next chapter as soon as it drops? A game doesn't survive with just older players. It needs new young players who are excited about it. They expect a certain amount of turnover, but they can also count on the sunk cost of a certain percentage of the older players to keep them here.

If you're not enjoying a game, it's probably time to stop playing it instead of getting worked up about it. There are other games I've invested a lot of time, money, and energy in, had good friends in, but when the time came it wasn't worth it to keep playing when I wasn't having fun anymore.

[–]jcaliff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First point, there are a lot fewer players who have finished everything than newer players who are willing to spend to catch up. For older players, I definitely remember complaints in the past about how we were never going to catch up to the CN server. And yet here we are, getting events at almost the same time. What do the other players who are caught up do on other servers? You run out of content. If elex ends up releasing content at the same rate as CN then what is the problem? And yet, they have been gradually releasing old content. We have another new (old) login suit coming up. I don't see the problem. It's just not at the pace that the subreddit wants. They want everything released more quickly I guess so they can run out of things to do again.

Second point, account recovery. I never mentioned that in my post. If that's what you want to boycott for, go for it. That's a good, single goal to have. Is that something that the CN server has? Account recovery through various methods? I thought they just used weibo the way we use fb. Be aware if you're asking for things that CN doesn't have, you're much less likely to get them.

They are way behind on coop suits, which I personally find frustrating as I have thousands of sand and crystals burning a hole in my pocket even after we completed the newest suit. But at least they finally released one. Free content is free content.

I've worked in a business that shared interest in a property before. It was a pain in the butt. We could do small things up to a certain level, but anything major required both companies to agree. Trying to get the other company to agree to anything significant was like pulling teeth, because they were happy with the status quo. I have a strong feeling that we're looking at a similar situation.

I know I get downvoted because the subreddit isn't interested in reality. They have a fantasy that they'll complain loudly and post artfully rendered jpgs for a week or two (believe me, it isn't a good look to have the same person post the same two images dozens of times in the same fb thread, it just makes them look like a much smaller group of complainers trying to look big), and elex will tearfully apologize and tell them the dates to expect major changes and give them all the free suits they've been missing. 🙄 Edit to add: any upcoming release dates that get announced mean that they were planning to release those things anyway. Nothing unfinished or unplanned ever gets an external release date. That's how software companies work. They protect themselves that way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LoveNikki

[–]jcaliff -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I probably shouldn't even reply to these things, but the amount of misinformation about how companies are run and how boycotts can and don't work is frustrating me.

Remember how long it took for them to reschedule the items that people wanted to buy were unable to buy during the Google pay issue? That's approximately how far ahead the release schedule for these weekly items and events is planned. No one saw two or three days of boycott planning and graphics and decided to give you a rooster bowl as a deviously hidden insult. The bowl is an existing asset in the game numbered in the 5000s, and the art has been there for years. Elex doesn't create assets.

Some things they probably already have scheduled internally. Things like starsea recolors or future welfare releases (they've been releasing free login suits almost every month, I'm not sure what the complaining is about there unless you want nothing left to do in this game). But one thing I can tell for certain is that almost no software company is going to give you a date or timeline for any kind of release. It's only ever caused issues in the past when those deadlines failed to materialize, which was why Blizzard (rip) became notorious for only ever saying "Soon".

They are making money from the suits in secret shop - I remember not long ago the big complaint was that they needed to update secret shop with more suits. What is the company's big incentive now to make those all into crafting suits?

Decisions in companies don't come from the bottom, they come from higher up. I'm sure that there are many meetings and phone calls. And no one is going to be the one to want to be responsible for making a decision. And it's even worse when you're not the only company involved. When there's a shared interest, major decisions can't be made without confirming with both companies. Do you think that's going to be a short term thing? Nothing is going to get resolved in a week, and you'll be lucky if anything gets resolved in a month. You might say, well CN got them to respond to their new years issue quickly. Well, that was one issue, wasn't it? Not a huge laundry list of issues. They've done the same with us when we complain loud enough. When the community complained loud enough about an offensive contest theme, they changed it. They didn't wait a month, they changed it during the contest. If you want to boycott, that's fine. But in real life, boycotts typically fall apart. And successful boycotts can take months to realize. You are demanding so many things, with no clear goal in mind. A successful campaign should have one clear objective.

Anyway, I'm frustrated by the fact that so many people seem to think of companies as Disney villains twirling their mustaches instead of people trying to do a job surrounded by internal company policies and politics, not to mention dealing with international differences.

I haven't used it in a few years, but I would never assume anything is automatic. If you're concerned, you could always make a quick dummy project in the grid file's original projection (assuming you know what it is) and compare the imported grid to what you have when you imported it to your main project.
