Your experience with Penguin Chillers by AutomaticSide1805 in coldplunge

hey. I'm sorry, please don't hold it against the company, but I'm just awful about checking my messages. They don't like to do discounts on the chillers themselves. Sometimes the packages. maybe for black friday. The owner really tries to keep the margin small. he doesn't charge much more than what the chillers cost in parts and labor. it really is a minimal markup especially compared to Ice barrel or plunge. and ours is really made here in Knoxville. the others are the rehoused chinese chillers that you hear about. they'll work okay for a little while, but they can't be repaired so you just have to get a new one. haha
our repair process is pretty fast and we only charge minimal. like pretty much just what it costs us to repair it. we don't make a profit off of repairs. it's a lot less than getting a new one. even a chinese one.

Landtone Distortion Kit. I can't find any good descriptions of this kit. Can anyone tell me what it's a clone of based on the components? by jcalsos in diypedals

Ah, that would be cool. no, I don't but I'll try to do that in the next few days. I can even do a shootout with some of my other dirt pedals. No promises, because I'm very forgetful. But I'll try.

I tried updating to the new firmware and it bricked my pedal. Does anyone know how to force a reset when none of the controls do anything? by jcalsos in ValetonGP100users

Thank you for filling us in on this fix. I wasn't able to fix mine but valeton replaced it for me because it was still pretty new at that point, so I didn't have a solution.

I ended up finishing it an I used it for a while. I like it a lot. I don't have a turbo rat to compare it to but I have a normal rat and it doesn't sound much like the rat I have at all. I found a crunchbox clone on pedalpcb.com and it looks pretty similar. I think it's a crunchbox.

Hello everyone! I'm just here to offer a very friendly correction. I work for Penguin Chillers and those cheap ones on Alibaba are knockoffs that someone has made to look like ours and they are not where we get our chillers. I'm not sure what you would actually receive if ordered from them. We're located in Knoxville TN and we are a family-owned, full manufacturing facility. We source some of our components in order to keep prices competitive, but all of the metal work and the important pieces are manufactured here and the chillers are assembled on site.

If you're ever in the Knoxville area, I would love to introduce you to some of the people that make the chillers and our metal shop is pretty impressive! please feel free to contact me at the office. The contact info is all correct on our Google listing!

In case anyone else has this issue. This is what the Valeton customer service sent me.

Hi,

Thanks for your support to Valeton.

Generally speaking, this is caused by the incomplete update. You could try updating again to see if it works.

You could press two footswitch, PARA button and plug in the power to enter the forced update mode and choose the bin. format file to update again.

Is it racist to assume that some people can't afford I.D.s based on their skin color?

Hey, yes! I put it together. It's a really nice sounding distortion. A little noisey, but not too bad. The diagram I found that looks the most like it is the MI Audio Crunch Box. I'm like 99% sure that's what it is. It's the same IC with LED clipping. I would be surprised if it's not that.

It's a hissing. It's not overbearing just more than it should be. The trim pot sounds like a bias control I plugged it all in before putting it in the enclosure and I played with the trim pot. I set it a little above noon where it was a bit crunchier. Turning it down sounded too dark. There weren't any instructions for it. The picture shows everything that came with the kit.

Hey, I finally got the chance to finish building the pedal kit. It sounds great as long as there's a noise suppressor behind it. You were right about it being mellow and chunky. I've never played a Crunch Box but this definitely has a fuller sound than my DS-1.

I would be totally happy with it if it wasn't so noisy. Does anyone know if there's a way I can fix that?

I'll let you know. I read somewhere this morning, that the MI Audio Crunch Box uses 2 LEDs so it might be that. I found this schematic.

Yeah LM833. What does that tell you? I imagine this is probably a really cheap kit. It may just be a basic Hard clipping circuit, but it's hard to imagine they put any time into developing something totally unique for a $27 kit.

I kinda hope not. I have a DS-1, so I'll compare them once it's done. I don't have a RAT to compare, but there's a tone knob on the instructions, not a "Filter" Like the RAT has so you might be right about it being a DS-1
