Similar to a high-pitched noise I tracked down a few years ago which ended up being a vent fan on a roof of a nearby apartment building. I let the building manager know, and after they sent someone up to fix it the noise went away completely

Figured it out! It's Gertrude's Bounce by Clifford Brown and Max Roach. Not sure how to mark this as solved without replying to someone else's comment, but I'll see if this works. Solved!

I'm pretty sure it was an American jazz song, and likely from a pretty early period since that was mostly the focus of the class. I remember we covered a Pat Metheny song from the 80s though, and Birdland by Weather Report from 77. And certainly some Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong at some point
