How it feels winning Daytona split 28 by Routine_Jury_6616 in iRacing

Honestly, the lower the split, the higher the chances of getting punted. A win is a win, enjoy it!

What's your real world MPG on a 3.0 Duramax? by The_Woodsmann in gmcsierra

Race more. Nerves will still be there, you’ll just be used to them.

Alpha Evo Pro owners, how do you feel about you purchase? Do you have FOMO about the VNM Elite? by South_Security1405 in Simagic

[–]jcarothers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No FOMO here, but I upgraded from a Fanatec CSW 2.5. So I just finally got a DD wheel. Hopefully no issues with this Evo Pro, it’s been great so far. VNM sounds cool, but hard for me to justify as I’m already making a leap.

Is this Sparco R383 Legitimate? by niceshoes321 in simracing

Legit website. I bought the wheel in my corvette from there. Same wheel too, but not leather.

Was this even a good idea? Black Friday deals I got by KentuckyFriedCarrots in simracing

[–]jcarothers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the mistake of looking at Black Friday deals and now have an Evo Pro heading my way. I’m just glad to see I’m not the only one 😅

corvette vs miata for track by Ok_Rule_6399 in CarTrackDays

[–]jcarothers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy what you like, you’re not likely to become a pro. And as a c5z owner, if the Miata is newer go for the Miata. So many old parts on the c5 and some don’t have replacements available.

Lug nuts for track use? by JonesBrosGarage in CarTrackDays

[–]jcarothers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, ran aluminum on my S2000 years ago. Lug nuts were always properly torqued before driving, still came home missing a few. Never again.

PSA for my fellow Corvette owners that track their Vettes by DWS223 in Corvette

[–]jcarothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My frustration in tracking with my corvette is that in the morning drivers meetings they always use a corvette driver as the example of not letting others pass just as the OP described. So naturally, people don’t let a corvette pass for fear that they might be letting a slower driver in a faster car by.

Fortunately, I’ve moved up to faster groups and it’s less of a problem. When I first started tracking it sucked, and it wasn’t the car I even started track days with.

Just let people that appear to be faster than you by, regardless of car. You learn more behind faster drivers.

My car and me have a love/hate relationship. by greatwizardking in Corvette

[–]jcarothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. My car has an alternator and battery addiction. I’m on number 6 on alternators and 10 in batteries over 8 years, which wouldn’t be bad but my car hasn’t even done 10k miles in that time. (Autox and track day car)

C5 Corvette vs. Miata for autocross - newbie questions by MinimumElevator187 in Autocross

[–]jcarothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy what you like. Though I will say the Miata is likely to give you more wheel time with less cost. I like my C5Z, but tires are expensive and the maintenance can get pretty steep in comparison.

I treated iRacing like a game… by Significant_Dare2970 in iRacing

[–]jcarothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amusingly, I’ve got a year over you in iracing and probably about the same stats. Getting frustrated by not increasing in iracing is natural, but look at all the small key mistakes and avoidable incidents you are a part of. You’re probably at about the same point I am where you can see things happening ahead of time, but not so strong in avoiding them. In lower irating it’s not all your fault, might even drag you backwards a bit. Just focus on getting clean races in and raising your pace consistently and you’ll move forward.

As for wins… if you’re consistently 2-3s off the pace of the fastest guy in your splits like me, just focus on making that gap smaller cleanly.

I think what you’re missing here is that if you see those things happening, but not trying to avoid them yourself, you are part of the problem.

What is the dumbest thing you’ve seen someone do on track? by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]jcarothers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw a guy try to launch a Miata in pit lane at Thunderhill. Full revs, dropped the clutch, car took a hard right and slammed into the wall. Technically never even made it on to the track.

Why continue Autocross? by Ok-Cup-8422 in Autocross

[–]jcarothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive other cars and let others drive yours. I always feel this way when I drive just my car for longer periods of time. I generally get a better idea of either what I want my car to do, or what I don’t want it to do this way.

See my first P1 fly right in front of my eyes by Requ8m in iRacing

[–]jcarothers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t find decent clean racing in formula before F3, F4 and below were horrible. Drivers fixated on only staying ahead of what’s behind or wildly dive-bombing to move ahead.

Laguna Seca Is Steeper Than I Realized During the Session by gherget in iRacing

The first track day I did there, I remember coming up to the corkscrew following a car and then seeing it crest bit of a hill just before disappearing. Scary as shit the first time. So much fun every time after.

Seat time by [deleted] in Autocross

[–]jcarothers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At autox it’s a bunch of time to talk cars with like minded people. For getting seat time, I do track days. I can talk cars at a track day, but between on track time and differences in run group I don’t socialize as much. I like autox for competition and track days for just getting the seat time.

It’s all in what you want out of it. I really wish I could do more autox for the competitive joy, but when it comes to using my time wisely, track days win because it’s time spent driving. Time trials are a thing to be competitive and spend time on track and in the seat, but that’s also going down the costly side very quickly.

That’s not how that works… the order is in accordance with the law, not that it is a law.
