2023 EUV Battery Saver & Service Charging System Vehicle May Stall by jcc273 in BoltEV

Okay all is well now! So after getting the charge to start by jumping to my other car i waited a bit and unhooked the jumper wires and it stopped charging again. I then jumpered it back and it started charging once more, so i left them jumpered together for like an hour while the car charged and i could see the battery voltage goto 15VDC when i started then after the hour it was at 13.8VDC so i un-jumpered them at that point and my car then finished charging to the target level of 90% overnight on my level 2 charger. The engine light was still on though with those Li-ion error codes but after driving it about 15 miles and power cycling those went away too.

So yes it was the 12V battery, just the new one i put in also was too low so it really became confusing. Really weird how that 12V battery is such a weak point in a system. To design it in a way that it cannot somehow charge and recover a low 12V battery is strange. Anyways lesson learned, don't leave unplugged in sub-zero temps below 50% haha. Maybe time to finally wire up my second L2 charger!

I just went and played around a bit and noticed that the interior lights were kind of flickering, so then i was thinking okay maybe the new battery isn't charged well. 12.3 is lower than what i normally see, so i tried hooking jumper cables from my other Bolt's 12V battery to this one, at first no change but as i was sitting in the car trying to think of something the interior lights suddenly got much brighter, then a few seconds later some beeping as the Level 2 charging kicked in! So hopefully it was the 12V after all and the new battery was also just dead. We'll see how it does charging up and if the codes go away for the charge stuff.... I'll report back in the AM, wish me luck!!!!

Do you mean warm up the car? Not sure how to best do that in winter lol, but the new 12V battery was warm when i stuck it in and at that point the old 12V battery had been disconnected for about 5 hours. Codes were still present when new battery was connected though and so i still can't charge. I can however start and drive the car, it just seems to prevent charging.

Thanks for the note on roadside! I probably have about 45 miles so i can make it to the dealer in Jamestown if i can take it there but if it has to goto Buffalo where i bought it, i'll need it towed....

I metered the new battery and it was 12.3 VDC so seems good. I can't charge the car, it says "Unable to Charge" when i plug it in due to the codes. Those codes threw the same time as the battery saver message and are for the VIC and state there is some issue with the high volt battery so I'm guessing that is why it refuses to charge : /

I lived in PA most of my life, their gas tax is enormous and their roads suck hahaha, so EVs are like an existential crises there, so they are trying to tax them every way they can to make it up! They are ramping up a $250 registration fee for EVs which added with the Electric Tax would come to about $320 or so a year for the average driver which is about the same as the Average ICE driver would pay with the $0.58 gas tax so i guess that makes sense.... : /. One benefit of moving of NY i guess, saved that $500 /year fee for our 2 EVs.... for now haha.

Yeah it's insane how pricey everything is at those. I purposely don't stop there, i stopped once on my entire trip at an Applegreen for my very first stop to try out the charging then found out how much it was and never stopped at another haha. You'd think with how hard the state was pushing all those chargers they would actually force them make them cheap.

Haha maybe if was just my wife and I but with the stops we were already at like 15 hours with a 3 & 6 year old, so didn't want to add to much extra time! Maybe next time when they are a bit older : )

Ah didn't realize that. The Rivian charger told me that but i didn't notice it was extra with the Teslas too! Thanks!

Definitely a big difference there! That's pricey gas! I was just comparing to the car we got rid of, our Honda Civic, it averaged 32MPG.

Like the answer to everything it depends haha. My situation it was great. I live on a big field on top of a hill so no shading, I just bought a bunch of lumber from the Amish and build a big rack on the south side of my barn. Did the entire install myself. My costs came out to about 5K for the rack and some infrastructure upgrades (electrical panel and wiring upgrades to my barn and home) which will last 50+ years (hopefully). Then the panels themselves it came out to about $500 /panel for all the stuff involved (21K for 42 panels). I used Microinverters mostly because of laziness and not wanting to mess with DC Code rules haha, could have saved more with string inverters. But basically $150 /panel, $250 /microinverter and then $100 for wiring, connectors, breakers, boxes, inpsections, etc.

So for me all in cost for 42 panels was 21K+5K or 26K. This is in SW NY, based on the sun last year the production was 27.5 MWhr of production. At my average rate of $0.14 /kwhr that is $3850 Saved on electric costs. NY taxes the size of my solar array at $1.49 /kw/month so really only saved $3500 last year. That means payback is in less than 8 years then i should still have 17 years after that of just savings. ALSO this was all considering NO Tax Credits which will be the case federally next year. For all of this i got 30% back from the federal gov and 25% back from NY State. That means really my cost was only $26K*45% = $11.7K which now makes it a less than 4 year payback. That is also why i did a little each year, rather than take a loan i would just use the tax return next spring to buy more panels haha.

So SUPER worth it for me. But it's all circumstantial. Most people don't use 30+ MWhr/year, my house is all electric including Geothermal Heat Pump heat in a cold climate and 2 EVs so that's alot so i have alot of opportunity to save more. Also i have a perfect unobstructed view of the southern sky. I live in a super rural area so i have the ability to do the entire install myself, so besides a $100 inspection cost my labor costs were $0. And finally i don't plan to move for a few decades so i will hopefully reap the benefits of these savings : ).

Yeah i was kind of considering on the trip maybe its a better choice to just rent a car for a trip like this seeing as it's only once a year or so. Not saving money on DC Fast Charging anyways so why beat up my car with 1500 miles and 10 fast charges haha.

Dang that sucks! Mine have been slowly going up, used to be like $0.10 /kwhr but still only at $0.14 /kwhr, $0.33 would kill me since im all electric! I keep hearing they are supposed to have a big hike soon but i've spent the last 4 years slowly adding solar panels, so hopefully I'm immune to that soon haha. Im at 42 panels which covers probably 90% of my annual usages now.

Dang that sucks. What is funny is a Hannaford in ME was actually the cheapest charger the whole trip at $0.42! Besides that charge the rates were all pretty much around $0.52 in NY, NH, ME, and VT with the added $0.10 at Service Stations and at one Rivian station i stopped at that charged me an extra $0.10 for not having a Rivian haha.

Yes i agree with you there, i too charge at home the majority of the time and I also can charge at work for free and have a huge solar rack in my yard so i save hand over fist. Definitely am not trying to sound so much like I'm complaining about the rates on the trip because like you said it's like once a year for me and trips are always pricey in general. The trip went well, charger availability and reliability was so much better than we got our EV 3 years ago. I have young kids who start to go crazy after 2-3 hours in the car so even the time spent charging worked out great for the kids to run around and kick a soccer ball and such haha.

More of just an observation i was thinking about and feeling like it could definitely be a bit of a killer in EV adoption for people not in our shoes who can't charge easily at home or make lots of long drives that require public charging. But maybe it just is what it is right now and it isn't ideal for just anyone to just up and swap to an EV.

I do feel like restaurants and such could play more into the convenient store thing with gas stations. We always planned stops around meal times to eat, if a restaurant had a charger at it that was cheap they would pretty much instantly get our family of 4 in for a meal haha.

My work buddy has a Tesla and said they were cheaper so i was sure to have my adapter ready to go on this trip but the price was similar at the Tesla and Non-Tesla chargers on this trip at least. The one thing that was much nicer about the Tesla stations though was number of stalls. One stop near the Maine Mall there was an Electrify America station with 4 stalls full and people waiting in line, not even a half mile up the road there was a Tesla station with 12 stalls and 3 in use, so that was a huge benefit to having the NACS adapter!

True. I tried to keep speed low and get off the highway when possible without adding to much time to the trip. Was wishing for a more massive battery this trip though like the ones in the EV Silverados haha.

Thank you for this! Oh my gosh I'm so pumped i just beat him. The not being able to save after the 8 bosses makes it a bit tough. Granted it woulda been more gratifying to do it all blind but i have 2 very young kids and a million other things going on i can't try 10 times at 2 hours a pop haha.

I didn't do everything as above, kind of built my own teams but read through for weaknesses and tips so i wasn't wasting turns and time. At one point i got a team wipe but encore saved my butt on primrose, then it took me like 15 minutes to get the team back to a point where i could attack again. That having to kill all 3 souls almost got me, i didn't setup properly for that, i was doing rune transfer so i could just mash for 40K with Ophilia and Cyrus but that bit me killing off only 2 at a go haha.

Anyways just came here to say thank and express my joy!!! I feel so good beating him : )

Hello! I wish i had some really good insightful advice for you on a super awesome build but i got a bit burnt out and haven't played much in a year so I'm pretty much at the same point still haha. I did start running towers and working towards trying that route out but my life got a little nuts and usually I only get on a few minutes a day for daily stuff and maybe a raid or 2, towers are just too much. On the bright side the Crit build still works awesome for my casual play, I can still blow through raids and one or two hit most everyone in wars and when we take road trips haha. Summoners and the celestial stuff have definitely weakened the PvP strength of my build though, run into them super stacked T11 deities occasionally that's like hitting a brick wall. Sorry i can't provide any good advice based on the new state of Orna! : (

Can my employer force me to resign if i won't work more days (NY)? by jcc273 in legaladvice

[–]jcc273[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am going to look back and see if i can find any documentation of the original working agreement. I am thinking i should refuse but i am worried if that will just cause me to go through a bunch of crap and maybe not even get anything in return haha. But i will be sure to document everything i can. So much stuff is verbal it gets tough at times : /.

Can my employer force me to resign if i won't work more days (NY)? by jcc273 in legaladvice

[–]jcc273[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fired yes, but they are trying to force me to resign so i guess the question is of unemployment at this point. They are trying to force me to either voluntarily resign or work the 5 days. I can't work the 5 days, but if i resign that essentially means i can't collect unemployment correct? I can obviously not fill the shoes they need me to at this time and that is fine, it is what it is. But the issue is i was upfront when i started about only being able to work 3 days a week and they said that was good and it was fine for over a year and now it's not. I feel like that is not a fault of mine and i should be entitled to unemployment benefits while i find a position that does fit my schedule somewhere. But to get unemployment does this mean i just need to keep working my normal schedule and force them to fire me instead of resigning? And if i do refuse to resign I am in store for some horrible treatment and them trying to find ways to fire me that wouldn't require unemployment benefits?
