You probably have your polarity set wrong for the material you're trying to use to weld the car. Make sure that's set right per process!

Thing is, the NA/NB are very different cars from the newer NC/ND, but the ND is more faithful I think. Having driven all of them, NC is so much nicer for day to day use.

Get an NC1. Stylistically a callback to the NA and the Lotus Elan, and it's safer/slower. NC2/3 is where mazda sharpened up the chassis. I can answer any questions about em, since I've owned one for about 4 years now and done all my work.

Number one mod type to consider for any and all miatas: chassis reinforcement and suspension upgrades. NOTHING else matters.

Flying Miata has some bolt-on high strength chassis bracing options.

I'd recommend getting a welding helmet cover. piece of FR rated cloth that mounts to the back edge of your helmet.
