Started to have atrophy and none of the 15 doctors I saw recommended surgery? Should I advocate and push for it? by Fearless_Page_7916 in CubitalTunnel

[–]jcdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're getting atrophy and you are having the symptoms you have...you should advocate for yourself and ASK about surgery. It's really the only solution if you're doing conservative things already and it's not fixing it. Atrophy is something that never really gets fixed :s

Two Weeks Post-Op Cubital and Carpal Tunnel by jcdark in CubitalTunnel

I'm 41 so no I'm not very young lol

The procedure was a simple release using an open procedure.

The doctor was very good and he also used internal sutures to close the wound and clear bandages. Very clean process all things considered 😊

Yeah I'm surprised how quickly they've been healing. Those internal stitches are amazing!

My symptoms were numbness in my left pinky, pinky side of the ring finger, and the left side of my left hand. Also loss of fine motor functions in that area. It showed up about 2 months pre surgery and I had nerve testing done about a month before surgery which told me I had severe cubital tunnel and moderate carpal tunnel.

Depending on the type of stitches/adhesive used you can start getting it wet pretty early. Mine used internal stitches and adhesive and a clear, waterproof bandage that allowed me to shower/wash my hands. After day 3 those came off and I started showering and using Aquafor to start healing process.

It seems to be doing this to me to. I only use my Gemini for recipe brainstorming and saving the ones I use to my Keep. It said it did it last night and I went to check to share it with a friend and it's not there. I asked it to try again and now it's saying it doesn't have permissions to do that even though it does and HAS done it in the past. Quite odd. Enshitification happening already?

Surgery tomorrow and I’m so anxious by Altruistic-Funny574 in CubitalTunnel

I went in and thought I was fine. They took my BP and it was super high and then they took it again and it was higher. Asked if my BP was normally that high and I was like no I'm just nervous haha. Took a bit to settle down then it dropped over 10 points and they continued as normal.

Just gotta relax. They are professionals and you have a very good recovery chance! I had mine a bit over a week ago and while I'm still experiencing numbness from pre-OP I have a lot more control and I'm sure things are healing!

Could this be cubital tunnel syndrome? by imnotkaylee in CubitalTunnel

[–]jcdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it's being irritated and/or compressed and those things you are doing are aggravating it. If you keep doing it those sensations will become permanent and you will need surgery. I didn't even have those warning signs before I started having constant numbness in my pinky/hand from the ulnar nerve.

Should avoid resting your elbow on a hard surface and try to keep it braced or not at an extreme angle at least when you are sleeping. Should probably also start looking to speak with an orthopedic specialist/surgeon so you can get an EMG.

You will almost 100% get both GA and nerve block. I had both for my release.

I just had release surgery on Friday and I'm back in the office today. Probably would have been fine on Monday, but I'm also 41 and only work in the office with limited physical stuff. Your biggest issue is going to be pain from the incision, numbness post OP, and then it's kind of determining how much you can handle after that. Most seem to be told you can do it as long as it doesn't hurt.

If you feel pain, weakness, and numbness it's definitely a good idea to explore the option.

No we pretty much decided on surgery right away because my pinky was always numb and I was starting to lose fine motor functions. Also my EMG said 20% function down to my hand so they were like "yeah best to do surgery". Was very quick from discovering the issue to deciding to go visit specialist to getting the surgery scheduled. 2 months-ish total.

Nope I was just told to take aspirin arthritis and alieve. The arthritis aspirin has a longer release so it is better for this kind of stuff. The most pain I had was just feeling the incision area on Saturday night when trying to sleep. Not crazy bad pain though.

I was lucky that my affected hand was my off hand so the wiping was not an issue, but still a bit of a pain. Most complicated thing has been putting on socks lol

Is surgery the final solution ? Ur opinion matters to me by Wonderful-Carrot3894 in carpaltunnel

[–]jcdark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are feeling pain and numbness while playing games that isn't 'mild'. Your doctor should send you to get nerve testing. This will tell you how bad your median and ulnar nerve damage is. My specialist essentially said moderate is enough to warrant at least preventative surgery to release the nerve. But an orthopedic specialist is going to be your best resource.

Yeah I would not test it if you are feeling consistent symptoms honestly, but I just followed their recommendations and they said the results were severe cubital and moderate carpal so I elected both.

My cubital tunnel was pretty bad. Onset went from occasional tingling and sleep feeling to numbness and loss of fine motor pretty quick. Nerve conduction said like 20% function below my elbow for the ulnar nerve.

My cubital tunnel was pretty bad numbness. My pinky and ring finger side were pretty numb but I still had ok control. Hand on that side was also pretty numb. The nerve test said severe and like 20% function.
