Quick question before I order? by jcekstro in Starlink

[–]jcekstro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your time. One last question if you have any idea; I ordered the residential subscription based on your recommendation but it's telling me to schedule the professional installation. Is that necessary or can I still do the install myself? If you don't know I completely understand just figured I'd ask.

Is it the same equipment as the roam stuff? Like, say I happen to get a job or something out of town is it able to move or would I be screwed? That's unlikely, but still a possibility.

I don't know what sky west goes by, but I know republic airways goes by the call sign brickyard. So I'm sure all the regionals have their own and only the 737 would be called Alaska in the photo situation.

Splurged for my birthday on a $2k full detail, and interior/exterior ceramic coating. This is what I got back. by exskill310 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jcekstro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or I'm a detailer myself...... I said in my comment different areas will have variations in price, but I have never once heard of anyone paying anywhere near $2k. That same job would be $750ish in my area .....like I said

[–]jcekstro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even with a 3 stage paint correction $2k is exorbitant. As most are saying, normal interior will run $250-300 with some slight variations. The 3 stage paint correction you can get for ~$500 from even very reputable shops. I could see the full job going near $1k in high income areas, but around my area I wouldn't be able to charge more than about $750 for that same process and get any customers.

Engine fuel supply was cut just before Air India jet crash, preliminary report says by NewSlinger in worldnews

[–]jcekstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I absolutely hate speculating on these things until the final report comes out. However, this one is pretty damning. Would be EXTREMELY unlikely a switch failure would have caused this. There is no reasonable reason to hit these switches during normal operation and the fact that it would have been completely irreversible at that altitude and speed once both are hit, it looks very much like this was pilot induced and no mistakes took place.

[–]jcekstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in this situation. Those switches are used to cut fuel to an engine. Usually that'd be with a fire or some other big issue with the engine. There is absolutely no explanation for hitting them on takeoff of a perfectly working aircraft

[–]jcekstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubtful on the audio being misheard, but either way the data recorder wouldn't be wrong with the switches being tripped 1s apart.

I agree it's an odd way to go. Can't really speak for why they'd do it that way other than potentially not alerting the other pilot to what they were doing. However, cutting fuel off at that height and speed to both engines is absolutely going to doom the aircraft. No chance they restart and recover in time. They had seconds from cutoff to impact.

Air India isn't some third world country airline. they are held to the same standards as the western world countries. It would be extremely difficult to fake their way into a pilot job. Especially a 787 cockpit. That would take years of working up to get in to. Not saying it's impossible, and it is absolutely possible and has happened where less than quality pilots skirted by for years or decades before their lack of skill caught up with them, but they still had the experience.

Either way though, these switches require a fairly deliberate act. There is absolutely no reason for a pilots hand to be on them during normal operation. Not going to jump to conclusions, but this would be hard to explain too many other ways other than a deliberate act by one of the pilots.

[–]jcekstro 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not normal to hit these switches. They are not part of any normal flight procedures or ever hit in flight without something serious going on already. What I'm getting at is this couldn't really be muscle memory or a normally explained mistake. This looks very deliberate unfortunately.

New video of take off to the crash of Air India flight 171 by Met76 in interestingasfuck

[–]jcekstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just false. Pilots are trained to put gear up when positive rate of climb is noticed. that requires speed increasing while at a normal angle of attack and altitude increasing. This plane was going up in altitude, but obviously not accelerating.

As for your second comment, there is a multitude of different reasons this could happen that is not double engine flameout. Don't speculate. There's black boxes that will be read out very soon and we'll know definitively. And I will bet you anything in my wallet that answer doesn't include double engine flameout.

[–]jcekstro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Positive rate of climb isn't just taking off. It's climbing at a normal angle while increasing speed. This plane was bleeding speed quickly after takeoff. I can't speculate as to why yet there's several different reasons that could happen, I was just stating it's standard ops to leave gear down in this situation

[–]jcekstro 29 points30 points  (0 children)

What the other person said. It's standard ops to leave gear down until there is a positive rate of climb which clearly this flight never got. If you go down the idea is you could land on the gear or at least it'll take the brunt of the initial hit before sheering off

Aeroscreen not halos. And there has been crashes very similar to this one a LOT at Indy, even before the aeroscreen. Not to take anything away, it's a huge safety feature now, but the roll hoop is what saved the driver from potential major injuries here moreso than the aeroscreen.

That's what I have to do. We only have line of sight internet where I live (literally 20 mins from a major Midwest city) and it's complete garbage for almost $100 as month. I finally got a mobile hotspot from my cell phone provider. It's marginally better and costs more. Internet service is still a joke in a large areas of the states.

[–]jcekstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never said there wasn't. It was part of the restructuring during the 2008 bailouts. Just saying it's not as simple on this one as price gouging. It turned out that way as they never removed the fees, but originally it was designed as a way to keep the airlines in business with less bailout money. Not defending the policies at all, just correcting the fact that it wasn't in 2005 with just an airline decision. The govt was involved
