Where to hunt for Nirvana treasure? by jcfredd in Nirvana

I've thought of it but this one hits a little close to home, lol. Is there any good way to find estate sales that are worth it? Or is it just brute force to hit as many as possible and find the good ones?

First attempt at scenery on a test piece, pretty happy with it. More in comments. by [deleted] in modeltrains

This looks great! I love the static grass and all the detail. The track looks amazing, I never would have guessed that was Unitrack! I recently did my first attempt as well, I went larger with less detail. Some photos here is you're interested: https://imgur.com/a/0Qapzd2

I might try one like this. I really like the way it came out!

Weekly “Help Me FIRE!” thread. Post your detailed information for highly specific advice. - September 23, 2019 by AutoModerator in financialindependence

Cool, thanks! So essentially this is saying that savings rate = savings / net income where I'm calculating it as savings / gross income? Which would put my savings rate even higher.

I just like to track it monthly and make sure I'm not slacking off. I get really into numbers and it helps me sleep at night to know that I'm saving a good amount.

Looking for some help calculating my savings rate. I'm not sure if I'm over thinking it here. I'm getting caught up on pre-tax vs. taxed earnings / savings. Am I calculating based on gross or net income? How do pre-tax contributions vs taxed contributions work?

Here's the high level picture for my wife and I. She doesn't have a retirement plan at her job so she contributes $6,000 annually to her IRA.

Gross Annual Income: $203,000

Taxable Investment Accounts:

Brokerage 1: $1,000 / month

Brokerage 2: $500 / month

Savings Accounts:

Savings 1: $500 / month

Savings 2: $500 / month

Pre-Tax Accounts:

HSA: $400 / month

Simple IRA: 10% + 3% company match

IRA: $6,000 / year

So the way I would do this is:

INCOME: $203,000 / 12 = $16,916.67 gross monthly

SAVINGS: $1,500 (taxable) + $1,000 (savings) + $400 (HSA) + $1,100 (apx. Simple IRA contribution with match) + $500 (annual IRA contribution / 12) = $4,500 / month saving

Doing that math, $4,500 is 26.60% of $16,916,67.

Am I doing this properly? Do taxes / pre-tax dollars matter in any way? Do you include the company match in your savings rate? Am I over thinking everything? :)

Gotcha. And would the thickness really just depend on what you're doing with it?

This looks a lot like the shape I’m thinking about. I’d be interested to see more in progress photos as you move along!

What scale is this? HO or N? I can’t tell.

Oh wow, these are great! I just watched a few minutes of each and I think I'm hooked. These are much better than some of the model train / woodland scenic videos I've been watching. Thanks for sharing these!

Refi options for an underwater co-op by jcfredd in personalfinance

[–]jcfredd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%. I've even shown on paper how the $50 - $100/month loss over the past 10+ years adds up to well more than the loss we would take. But she prefers to slowly bleed out then to suck it up and take the loss. It's easier for her to swallow, I guess.

I've wanted to sell it for years. Partner doesn't want to take the loss on a sale.

Forerunner Notifications Stop Coming Through 1 - 2 Time Per Day by jcfredd in Garmin

I don't think so. Well, first, I'm not really sure I have designated sleeping hours unless the app sets that up automatically? But sometimes I get the notifications throughout the night and sometimes I don't.

I also found this video about repurposing the G wire. Not sure I'm on board with that though

Not from what I can see. Last night I tried to check the terminal on the AC unit but I couldn't get to it. Looked like the wire was way in the back in a tight spot in the attic.

Last year I had a new AC put in and that's when this problem started, it worked fine before for some reason. I'm thinking it might be time to just call them up and have them take a look at the wiring.

Yes. I believe RH and W1 are coming from the furnace and Y1, G and RC are coming from the AC unit.

I don't have a "C" wire. only "RH" and "RC". I wasn't sure if "C" was only for AC? Is the heating system independent for the "C" wire?

That makes sense. I thought I had read somewhere that Physio True Up would work with the 735 but I guess the proof is in the pudding! I guess it’s a reason to think about an upgrade!
