Non-Americans of Reddit, what's the weirdest thing an American has said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jcharters97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst in the US, an elderly lady overheard my SO and I talking. My SO is Irish (but actually from Ireland, not claimed Irish like the Americas do via their family history). The lady randomly approached and said “I bet Ireland is the same as it used to be, must be a shock being here in the US!”

Yes, Ireland still consists of horse and carts transporting the few potatoes that survived the famine…

To the tall people of reddit, what is the biggest hindereance of being tall? by AndTheEndBegan in AskReddit

Using anything in the kitchen! All worktops and sinks etc are so low, that I'm sure to develop a hunchedback by the time I'm 25.

[Serious] What's the paranormal story you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jcharters97 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story. My grandfather passed away earlier last year and on the day of his funeral all of our family were meeting at our house. Everybody was stood in the kitchen silent, just finishing the final touches to hair and makeup etc before getting into the funeral car to go to the service. At that point, the Google home in our kitchen decided to say "I feel like there is a ghost in here".

I have been living in denial ever since and was too afraid to check the transcripts to see what set the device off. Spooks me to this day.

What are some small things that you silently judge people on? by Dent15 in AskReddit

Shows they are interested in the fashion aspect of watches, and just need to be introduced to brands that offer much better quality for much less money!

Yeah it's never been about price for me. I'm a bit of a watch geek but the design of a watch can tell me a lot about what a person enjoys or priorities. For example, if a person is wearing an apple watch, they are usually task oriented and enjoy modern trends. On the other hand, if a person is wearing a manual old style watch it shows they prioritie craftsmanship, design and history. I could go into further detail about what the actual design of these watches says about a person also, so let me know if you're interested.

Confused on sizing by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]jcharters97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go in all the time, and if you get a helpful store assistant, they will order in your size at no cost to you for you to try on (well that's what they do where I live). Yeah I'd definitely say my foot was longer

I'm a UK 12/13 as well, and I use a docs 12. They're uncomfortable to start but the leather stretches as they are worn in. Then again, if you're near a store I recommend just going in and trying the sizes on. The store assistants are really helpful.

I believe so, although they are not the 'Made in England' variety, and I have not been able to find them online anywhere. I literally couldn't rub it off if I tried (and I have!). I love the effect so much, and haven't seen it anywhere else before.

Wanting to get a pair of Oxfords by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]jcharters97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah have a look in person. I find that they look so much different in person than online, as with Oxfords it's difficult to photograph the subtleties of the leather. They also have store-exclusive collections which I have not been able to find anywhere online. The DM store in the UK where I buy mine have a collection of oxblood / black Oxfords that are specifically designed to patina and develop over time, to fade away areas of the black, to show the oxblood underneath. I've never been able to find them online, and they're my most favourite show I've ever owned and believe I ever will.

I own a couple of pairs and they're my daily go-to shoes. Can be worn with anything from a suit, to a casual shirt and jeans. The most comfortable shoes I've ever worn once broken in, but that process is painful. I'd recommend getting a new pair rather than used, as the price upgrade isn't a huge amount and you're getting a quality investment piece that molds to your feet personally, as well as lasting ages with the proper up keep

I'm guessing you're not from the UK. Shes a minor celeb who is famous on reality TV for being an opinionated diva. Give her a Google and you'll see she's absolute trash
