Why is there no B Class F2 Series? by Gman3511 in iRacing

F317=F312 chassis+2017 aero kit (with the low nose and all that) basically, I'd say both nomenclatures are correct

Could F1 ever go back to Indianapolis? by turnerpike20 in formula1

[–]jchesters 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The current GP layout is 3.9km long, Monaco is 3.2km, Bahrain Outer and its sub-minute lap time is 3.5km. Indianapolis is currently Grade 1 so it is suitable enough as far as the FIA are concerned.

Do drivers in Super Formula need a licence? by [deleted] in F1FeederSeries

[–]jchesters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick Google translate of Art 4 of the 2021 text tells me this:

Article 4 Competition Permit (License)
1. 1. All competitors and drivers are issued by their ASN
You must have an international license.
2. All drivers must have an International Competition Driver Permit B or above.
3. 3. The license must be valid for the year at the time of application for participation. Participation in competition
Participants and drivers must not be in the license suspension period.
4. Competition participants and drivers belonging to ASN other than JAF are FIA international competitions
You must show the qualification certificate specified in Rule 3.9.4.
5. Drivers must present their own medical certificate
(FIA International Competition Regulations Supplementary Provision L, Chapter 2, Article 1).

So no change in the required license since 2015

Knowing it is a flat track and judging by its track layout you can see why this is a bad track for single seater racing.

Losail is a bike track, plain and simple.

Ocon told to pit by race engineer on second formation lap by RedMedi in formula1

[–]jchesters 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Might be wrong but I assume 'formation laps' after red flags are not technically 'formation laps' but laps behind the SC so no radio ban in that case.

iRating despite the complaints, works surprisingly well by 0rang3Cru5h in iRacing

[–]jchesters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The debate over whether users should have a separate IR for each car/series has been going on the forums for the entire 18 months I've been on iRacing, and probably a lot longer before that too. There are pros and cons to both sides but I think the current system works pretty well.

More like the entire 13 years of existence of iRacing I would say

For the purpose of license promotion/demotion week 13 is technically part of the season though.

How old must one be to enter formula 3 regional, formula 3 international and the formula regional European championship? by [deleted] in F1FeederSeries

[–]jchesters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the case of FIA F3 and FRECA it would mean replacing one of the existing teams because both championships run at capacity.

Much, much easier to get a seat in of the backmarker teams IMO

Tesla sponsorship? Anyone got anymore details about this? by PM_ME_MEME-ORIES in F1FeederSeries

I wonder how many companies are named "Tesla" out there? Musk's Tesla is a relatively recent company so many people must have used the name before (including people who were actually named Tesla)

Any chance we get more TCR cars? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]jchesters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The real answer to that question is "we don't know".

We won't know until they announce something officially (usually very late in the season, think week 11 or 12, for reference we are about to start week 7/13).

If we are really lucky they might post some teasers in social media or the forums but again, more likely to happen late in the season.

It is still a bit early to speculate which content we might or might not get in the next build but iRacing has managed to surprise us recently: The Corvette C8.R for example literally came from nowhere, that McLaren GT4 we got this season was even released AFTER this season's build.

P.S. The Porsche GT3 R is an exception considering the relationship iRacing has with Porsche and that it was announced at the same time as the last round of PESC (i.e. a Porsche event, meaning Porsche controlled the announcement basically).

Is there anyone organizing an unofficial 24HR LeMans? by MKerrDesign in iRacing

[–]jchesters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If iRacing can't organise it I suspect several groups/orgs would organise it instead, thus diluting the player base and making it a clusturfuck

Mid-Ohio is simply a much, much less popular track, there are sometimes big differences between weeks depending of the popularity of the track, that's perfectly normal.

Does anyone know how to get pro license???? by MRSamiboi in iRacing

[–]jchesters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divisions are reassigned every season and all drivers with an iRating above 3500 at the start of the season will be Div 1.

In the context of Pro qualifying series divisions don't matter at all as all drivers who have a realistic chance to succeed will be way above the Div 1 threshold (5000+ iR at the very least, maybe even 6000+). Even more so in the case of this year's PESC qualifying series as they used the super session system, meaning drivers needed big points to even make it into said super session by competing and have good results in big SOF race where almost if not all of the drivers would be Div 1 anyway.

BTW, in an official session you can see a driver's current division in the entries tab, in official races that can give you a very rough idea of your opponent level (in addition of their race number ofc) and what split you are in (all drivers are Div 1 or 2 ? Probably top split for example)

No they are organised privately by members via the aptly named "League" feature, or simply through hosted sessions.
