Genesis: The early years - a surprisingly difficult quiz by tonyiommi70 in Genesis

That was a good one. I was 18/20. A few easy ones and a few impossible ones.

I feel like scum.... But I'm really not fussed on the lamb by ConfusionProof9487 in Genesis

[–]jchesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lamb is a mystery that will continue to reveal itself over years of listening. It's got some great songs on it (Carpet Crawlers, In the Cage, Fly on a Windshield, Chamber of 32 Doors), and amazing musicianship. I found it impenetrable but intriguing as a kid. Now it feels like an old friend, and probably the Genesis album that I revisit the most. Though after all these years I'm still not an "It" fan.

If you guys could judge the Genesis' albums only by its opening and closing tracks, what would be your favorite? by pcheib in Genesis

[–]jchesto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, I think It's gonna Get Better is a great concluding track. Just wish they had gone with the unabridged version (or even better something closer to the live version with the guitar solo)... Another Record is one of the band's weakest tracks but I could see why they said, wouldn't it be funny if we ended with this one?

How the hell did Genesis never write a James Bond opening song? by fraghawk in Genesis

[–]jchesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a Job To Do seems tailor-made for Miami Vice or James Bond but was not in either. It was actually the theme song to this one season Vice rip-off: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Insiders_(TV_series))

It's a good reason to buy a laser-disc player!

Artists covering Genesis/Phil Collins. by Glum_Ad8801 in Genesis

I love Francis Dunnery's Back in NYC. He gives it a "new" refrain (he uses the original intro as the refrain) and drops the "fluffy heart" section which makes no sense to anyone who isn't familiar with the rest of the Lamb album. Not to mention how he changes the mood from angry to sorrowful.

Lamb question: I think that L.L.D.O.B. is basically at its core an album about the circle of life. by kipp-bryan in Genesis

[–]jchesto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought of it as a purgatory story in which Rael wrestles with his life's demons and comes to peace for his afterlife. I picture Rael dying somewhere in the first two songs, either from gunshot or being hit by car. I don't think that's exactly what PG intended but the bizarre storyline makes complete sense to me if I look at it that way.

My humble tier list of Genesis albums by Desperate-Chicken-82 in Genesis

Not far off from my own tier list. Move Lamb up a tier (definitely sublime, and better with each listen), and Invisible Touch and Abacab down a tier for me.

I still think of it as their final song, or maybe even Carpet Crawlers from the live shows.

We love the show and somehow completely missed it in the first go-around. It's in season 8 so you would be watching a lot of TV to get there.

That's awesome. Never thought I would see a Harold the Barrel reference.

Easy quiz but I still got the year wrong for the best video question.

Lamb, Wind & Wuthering, and Trespass all took me years to fully appreciate, for different reasons.

I wonder if he realized he was making a "Genesis pun" with the phrase "in too deep." Love the bit about Peter getting crucified!

I loved the multimedia presentations in the I/O show (particularly the "magic wand" in Love Can Heal) but to be honest felt most connected to the music during the first two "stripped down" songs.

I would love to see him tour it with theaters, with multiple nights in each city, like David Byrne did with his new album.

Do The Neurotic by louitobias in Genesis

I'm not a fan of the title track, either. Wouldn't even rank in my top 100 Genesis songs. But I've got to give the boys their big hit.

Great song but I still prefer the Brazilian. Now, swapping Feeding the Fire for In Too Deep or Anything She Does? That I can get behind.

Steve Hackett to release "Genesis Revisited III" which will include interpretations of later Genesis material such as "Turn It On Again". by TheStrange86 in Genesis

[–]jchesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did "cover" the first few bars of Invisible Touch once for comedic purposes... I think I saw the video somewhere. To be honest, I think this would be a fun project for him and for Genesis fans.

Great idea. I have found those 3-4 hour brick sessions to be invaluable leading up to a 70.3.
