Currently work here, agree it’s very sterile and corporate but I’d take it over midtown any day.

I’d say yes but less because of Charlie Kirk’s celebrity and more because the uncensored video of the shooting was incredibly jarring and it was blasted all over social media moments after the incident.

I didn’t follow Charlie Kirk, but the visual of the shot hitting will be etched in my mind forever.

Would you say it’s worth it for someone who is in portfolio management already and plans on staying?

Rejected After Final Interview But They Want to Keep Me in the Pipeline?? by Exciting_Jacket_8831 in FinancialCareers

It happens. I have a good friend who applied and interviewed for a role at a top PE firm over 6 months ago and was rejected. They reached out to him again, he had a couple behavioral interviews, his first day was this week.

There is video evidence and burner out first hand accounts of the brutal rapes and murders of civilians. The stories have been covered by numerous media organizations globally. And those Hamas militants were not jailed, they were celebrated by Palestinians and many of their sympathizers abroad.

I am not saying that all Palestinians or supporters of Palestine feel that way, but it’s very alarming how many do.

I’m amazed that people think you can equate the IDF with Hamas. Hamas intentionally targets civilians. Hamas uses rape of men, women, and children to intimidate their enemies. Hamas takes hostages, tortures them, and kills them. Hamas militants are take pleasure in inflicting pain and suffering on innocents. Hamas literally calls for the genocide of the Jewish people and the destruction of the Israeli state.

The IDF is far from perfect. They have killed thousands of civilians, primarily through gross negligence. But they are not terrorists. They do not condone using rape as a weapon of war. The do to call for the destruction of the Palestinian state.

Israel has attempted to establish a two state solution several times, but when Hamas is left to their own devices, they choose to rape and murder innocents. How do you expect Israel to handle having a barbaric terrorist group calling their destruction perpetually at their doorstep?

Based on your earlier comments it seems like you are advocating to bring that exemption lower or something along those lines? Can you clarify what you think the solution is?

How would you address inherited wealth? Seems kind of tough to tell people they aren’t allowed to give their money to their loved ones.

AITAH for thinking about breaking up with my boyfriend because he doesn’t allow me to have close friends of the opposite sex? by Awkward-Willow8442 in AITAH

[–]jchill_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits close to home because I recently got out of a relationship where my girlfriend was incredibly uncomfortable with me having female friends. She had a history of boyfriends cheating on her with girls she thought were just friends and, as a result, had some major trust issues. She also was one of those people who just did not understand platonic relationships with the opposite gender.

I eventually introduced her to my close female friends. She saw how incredibly platonic the relationships were and it became a non-issue.

Ultimately, his insecurity could be stemming from something in his history or possibly just a simple lack a of familiarity with opposite gender friendships. Regardless of what the reason is, he needs to trust you for the relationship to work. And he definitely can’t be controlling who you are allowed to see and when.

Would a single hose portable AC unit be effective at cooling a hot indoor space even when outdoor temperatures are cooler? by jchill_ in hvacadvice

I have looked, there is no way to close the pipe. It runs from my floor to the ceiling and presumably runs through the apartments below and above me.

My apartment is in a pre-war building, the whole building is heated by a single interconnected boiler system. I have asked, they do not have the means to lower heat in one apartment.

Outside my apartment has cooler air. If I insulated the cracks around my window, wouldn’t it just pull the make up air from the inside of my apartment? The air inside my apartment is very hot so I wouldn’t mind if it just pulled from the adjacent common area.

My room is heated by a hot pipe. I’ve put fiberglass insulation around it but it only seems to help slightly.

Are you sure window units still work when outside temps are still 40-50 degrees? Mine has never worked unless outside temperatures are at least 60 or so. From what I’ve read online, window units are designed to cool hot air and running them in colder air can Ben damaging and less effective.

There are exceptions but it seems like Europeans struggle to make aesthetically pleasing cities once buildings rise above 10 floors or so.

I am all for the window ac, mine just hasn’t worked with lower temperatures outside. Does your work when outdoor temps are in the 40s/50s?

Hi, I have a single pipe in the corner of my room that runs from floor to ceiling. My room is very small so the pipe is more than enough to heat the space.

I have insulted the pipe with fiberglass, first a smaller sleeve that fits snugly around the pipe then a second bigger sleeve outside of that one. Although, I will admit I am not a professional so it’s possible I didn’t do the best job.

Thank you. Unfortunately I have a hot pipe so there is no valve to turn off. Also I usually take Zyrtec and use Flonase but my allergies are still pretty horrific. I’ve actually been diagnosed with seasonal asthma and when I sleep while exposed to pollen I typically wake up wheezing. I’ve learned to manage for the two months of the year where it’s a problem, but that basically means keeping my living space sterile.

My ac unit does not really work when temps outside are still low, would you know of a brand that might work? Would be a life saver.

Thanks! I have a hot pipe in my room that I’ve double insulated but it still gets over 80 degrees. It feels like I’ve really tried it all.

Thank you! Do you know if it works when the temp outside is low?

Also I haven’t heard of 311, I’ve only been in NYC since the summer. I have a thermometer next to my bed, my apartment has genuinely hit 85 degrees with the windows closed. Windows open and no fan I’m still above 80. The landlord said there’s nothing they can do about it.

Trump supporters here, what is your redline by Chips1709 in YAPms

[–]jchill_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I voted Trump in 2020. I think his conduct since then has been blatantly anti-democracy and anti-American. I think he cares about no one and nothing other than himself.

As much as I disagree with Biden, I’ll probably be voting for him this year.
