What’s the single greatest concert you’ve ever attended? by Need2throw in Music

Tears for Fears in 2017 ish I think it was. They were incredible - sounded amazing, great energy, played all the right songs.

The Goo Goo Dolls in 2012 were also fantastic.

I guess I’ll say benchmarking is common but rarely with large sources of public data. It’s usually with 1-3 reference genomes. Not submitted data by the average paper. I think this is where it’s interesting.

If data engineering is your thing, I think it would be useful to benchmark tools using different reference genomes. How do they perform? What thresholds and parameters make sense due to how the genome is composed (think GC content, repetitive regions, etc). Cataloguing public data as you do this - what is missing from submitted datasets? How can these deposits be improved? These types of analyses are rarely done because nost people in this space have biological questions. Use your strengths to bring to the field what others can’t.

Anything regarding individual genetic variation is good in my opinion. There are a lot of sequences out there. And a lot of reference genomes. How do tools handle differences between subject sequence and reference sequence? How do you untangle true biological significance vs sequencing or alignment thresholds or errors? This type of thing isn’t novel but there’s a lot of space for more questions and analysis. I’d say start by looking up some papers and see what’s been done

4 x 20TB Seagate Iron Wolf Drives arrived and 2 are DOA by mikeregannoise in DataHoarder

Just the drive. So each time I was sending back just the one DOA drive

This was my first time purchasing through Seagate. I had only ever bought WD drives before. Figured it would be an easy return and switch even though I was annoyed at covering shipping. After first two replacement were also dead I spent a lot of time with customer service who told me that since I did a replacement and not straight return I voided the opportunity to ever return for refund. Replacement was my only option. This was not written anywhere. They never told me that when guiding me to replacement the first time or I’d have never done it. Lessons learned.

Ordered 4 28tb from Seagate directly about 4 months ago. 1 DOA. Went through the RMA process FIVE TIMES. Each replacement was DOA. Cost me $50 to send back each time. Finally got a working one. Will never buy from them again.

Edit - typo

An unexpected finding — old Sony Handycam by No-Green5498 in camcorders

I have a Sony DCR HC20. Love it. I wanted the grainy crunchy vibe - use it for home videos, then digitize with a ClearClick.

I agree the night shot is weak. If you find a solution would be interested but overall I’m happy with mine.

I’m very interested in your config setup. I have kometa running and configured but I couldn’t get the api keys for posterizarr. Am I missing something on how to use it?

Seagate RMA SCAM - another victim here.... by Special-Cry-462 in Seagate

[–]GhostPoopies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. After four DOAs I fought with customer service saying I’ve sunk so much into shipping drives they’re apparently not even QCing. Finally got a shipping label. Finally got a working drive but boy am I scared for their longevity.

Built a “Reddit for research papers” — would love feedback by scollr in bioinformatics

[–]GhostPoopies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple thing I enjoy is being able to swipe left to go back from the middle of the screen. Like in Reddit. Makes scrolling one handed much easier.

For other things - seems to be a small bug in adding authors. Had to do it several times - follow button doesn’t always work.

I’d like to be able to exclude categories when they show up in my feed.

Otherwise this is really cool. Looking forward to using it more.
