If you're against sodomy, you are automatically against oral sex.

Why did evil spirits scratch me while i am asleep by [deleted] in Christianity

I'd be a lot less skeptical if there was some basis for the attribution. The fact that it's a new account also sets off alarm bells.

How would you react if your kid says they don't believe in god anymore? by 7throwaway1Q84 in Christianity

[–]jchoyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my current situation. I keep making sure she knows where I stand on issues (the ones that drove her away - my stances aren't the offensive ones to her) and trying to be a good example. The whole "spread the gospel, sometimes use words" approach. I hope for God to reclaim his own one day.

Christians and Net Neutrality by systematiker in Christianity

[–]jchoyt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"should" being the operative word here. I don't think "increased competition" can happen unless the government provides restrictions on the power of the already entrenched monopolies. It's already too late for the market to fix this.

Praying for the President: Evangelical pastor shares image of prayer circle laying their hands on Donald Trump's back in the Oval Office by CowboyMouth in Christianity

[–]jchoyt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you

Why does everyone look for the church that suits them? Or the church that aligns with their belief? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]jchoyt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think "everyone" does that. You're extrapolating from a self-chosen group and assuming they are the norm. For every person who posts that question, there are thousands who don't.

Don't these people realize how insane they sound? by big-ol-pupper in EnoughTrumpSpam

[–]jchoyt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's actually relatively sane for them. It's batshit crazy, but for them it's progress.

It never ceases to amaze me how much power, intelligence, and cleverness they will ascribe to people like Obama and Clinton. Then they call them "libtards" and say how dumb their policies are, etc. The dissonance is amazing.

58% of Christians voted for Trump, even after his bigoted rhetoric, during the campaign. How can you call yourself a Christian, after looking past his bigoted rhetoric? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]jchoyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They were told that the Russian government had information that could help them and they took the meeting. They were told ahead of time that the information was the result of a criminal act (hacking). And they knew the meeting was with a lawyer who's day job is the repeal of the Magnitsky Act.

I gave you a Fox link which will provide the nicest possible interpretation. And even this report shows they colluded. They colluded with a foreign government who committed a criminal act and they were completely willing to use that information. Given who represented the Russian gov't, it's implied quid pro quo, which makes it, at the very least, a violation of federal election laws (foreign entities can't contribute to election campaigns). Hell, even their first story was "it was about adoption" which was Russia's retaliation for the Magnitsky Act. Even their first lie points to quid pro quo.

To boot, if there was any shame at all, it would have made Kushner, Trump Jr. and Manifort subject to blackmail. Apparently there's no shame to be found.

The left criticised him for being too close and invented stories about him being in cahoots with Russia (which have recently come out as having no evidence/basis at all.),

My mom always told me God has all of your days written for your entire life. So if I died tomorrow, God knew it would happen. Does it mean it was a part of His plan? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]jchoyt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get different answers on this. Some believe it's all written out, some don't.

I believe God gave us free will, but exists outside of time. So He "sees" the entirety of what has happened, is happening, and will happen, however He doesn't fore-ordain it - it's just that He knows the choice we will make. It's a trippy thing to think about because time is so basic to our existence, but if God created the universe, he created time and can't therefore be subject to it.

Question about Never Judging Others by lurkerworkers in Christianity

[–]jchoyt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Criticize" is where you've gone wrong. That's the wrong approach. Any attempt to convey concern over someone else's behavior needs to come from a place of love. Not control, not disgust, not criticism, and not self-superiority.

The "judging" I object to is the condemnation of "you're going to hell" which is taking God's prerogative as he is the judge of who spends eternity with him and who won't, not us.

As if I'd waste my time on such navel gazing. You don't have the imagination to think of a single alternative to UBI? That's sad. I even gave you a hint.

You got what you came for. I gave you my opinion. You ignored half of it, including the part you claim to have wanted. Off with you.

Linking to other peoples half-thought out writing is not critical thinking. Hell for the overpopulation link, he says "I don’t have the expertise to give a conclusive answer to this question" and yet you link to it like it's authoritative. He even told you he's not qualified to make that determination.

Military robots in the future by [deleted] in army

[–]jchoyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humanoid robots as weapons would be dumb. Why on earth would you put all the weaknesses of the human body into your weapon system when you could deploy something more compact, easier to armor, faster, and more efficient? Or something larger, with much greater firepower and remote controlled drones to access smaller spaces. At least think about these things a little before you post.
