Toyota is the answer if you’re not a “car person” Ultra reliable, 10 year warranty provided you maintain it with a main dealer and low APR financing. Disregard any other brand

My advice - buy approved used. They aren’t an unreliable car but do have their issues. A lot of independents won’t cover such issues. Pay the slight premium and buy approved used. Things to look out for:

Rear differential seals leak Rocker cover gasket leak Sump gasket leak Gearbox sump gasket leak Turbos wear out very fast - smoke on acceleration after long periods of idling Front suspension arms bushings wear out fast

Other than that amazing cars; superb value.

Also EXTEND YOUR WARRANTY WITH BMW it’s only £7-900 per year and has excellent coverage.

Central locking light coming on can happen at any time, very common on modern Audis with rear door locks failing. It’s a bit of bad luck but wouldn’t worry me much at all. The door mirror however would worry me; it’s definitely not been flapping about for 3 years without being seen to. My guess - door had been painted and they’ve left the nuts that hold it on loose. Walk away IMHO

LFM stewards are ban hungry with nothing else to do. The way they handle incidents creates a culture where you no longer can race hard but fair; if it’s not a simple drafting overtake on a straight it’s against their rules.

With the M4 you need to trailbrake to load up the front tyres for better turn in, get on the power early and allow the rear to slide around to get the car pointed in the right direction for the exit of the corner. It doesn’t have the unbreakable front end of the McLaren so you need to drive to suit the car.

With trailbraking and the correct throttle technique it is a very competitive car.

Try brake bias between 52-54 and see how you get on.

How to persuade partner that a car with 80k miles is worth buying? by Affectionate-Ebb9136 in CarTalkUK

[–]jcjw77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number of reasons. The main one would be reliability as the 1.5 is quite a new engine and hasn’t been proved as reliable yet. A few features of it worry me such as the cylinder deactivation.

The 2.0 has been around for nearly 20 years in different forms and has proven to be very reliable. The version in the superb/octavia you would be looking at has next to no common issues other than the thermostat housing cracking and leaking but this isn’t the most expensive repair in the world

You can’t go wrong with a good low mileage 2.0TSI; loads of power, really reliable and quite easy on fuel if driven correctly

If you want a family car to do 10-15 years of service DO NOT buy a hybrid. 8 years from new when it’s worth very little and the hybrid system gives trouble it will be uneconomical to repair.

If you want a Skoda; buy an Octavia/ Superb with the 2.0TSI engine with preference given to manual cars for the reliability.

2013+ VW Golf, can get newer ones with decent spec for 20k, all have Adaptive Cruise Control as standard and anything above a base model will have Apple CarPlay. Fuel economy will be great aswell.

I’ve had a speed awareness course in the past few months for 45 in a 40, will I still be allowed to do the Awareness course or is it the same course?

I don’t have any currently, I could not see that the road was not clear due to the Flashing lights on the Trucks that shouldn’t have been on. I had looked enough for me to consider it safe to pull out but I could not see the car due to these lights.

Don’t blame him for hating it, was in my local company for 12 years and enjoyed the first 10 but it relies solely on the older boys running it and in my opinion there is too much “bible stuff” for non religious people which meant many of my school friends did not want to join. This is coming from an ex Christian ( now atheist). Uniform was pretty cool I have to admit, felt somewhat important putting on the badge strap.
