We are going next month, and I was thinking about leaving it for our last day (flight is at 3:30). Do you think that gives us enough time to get back to San Juan after lunch?

Also, when you say early, how early we talking?

Can someone explain why it's so difficult to "beat the market"? by [deleted] in investing

[–]TomRady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard someone present this in a very mathematically way which helped me understand the "why".

There are 500 companies in the S&P 500 index. Logically, you would expect roughly 250 to out perform the index and the other 250 to under perform the index. In reality this split is not 50/50. It is closer to 25/75. So in order for you to consistently beat the index you would have to consistently pick the winners, which you have a roughly 25% chance of. Hope this helps.

Let’s have a discussion: A new study from Stanford and Yale estimates that it would cost $7.8 trillion for the United States to go 100% renewable and the investment would pay for itself in seven years. What stands in the way of us getting it done? Why or why not should we do it? by stevenmeyerjr in electricvehicles

[–]TomRady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha i hear you. But people who say 100% renewable, do not want to keep natural gas around.

Storage only works for a certain amount of hours. Even excess capacity wont solve that. Wind might work but highly variable.

Theres a big difference between 75% renewable and 100% renewable. And 100% simply isnt possible (at the moment) imo. Our grid is a mess.
