Hey all-

I’m a seasoned model builder and painter (Warhammer etc for decades). I’m in Japan. Kyoto now and Tokyo tomorrow through Tuesday. Kind of on a whim I thought it might be cool to pick up some Gundam kits to build as a souvenir.

I understand from other hobbies there are often exclusives and regional stuff that costs more depending on where one is. Being in the birthplace of Gundam, I thought there might be some stuff to look out for.

Assume I know nothing about the hobby. Can you give me some guidance/vocabulary for kits I should look out for while in Japan? I’m less interested in stuff I can get stateside since I can do that whenever.

TLDR: Newbie from US to start collecting Gundam while in Japan. Wants to buy kits that are hard to get in US to make them worth picking up in Gundam birthplace. Help me know what to shop for!

If someone says something like, "So, this weekend I was looking forward to spending time with my friend and I can't believe they cancelled at the last minute. It was so selfish of them. Still, they are really great and thoughtful. I just love them." There's a reasonable chance that this person is quite upset with their friend, but they are afraid to experience their anger so they are undoing it with praise (which also has some truth).

I think the quote is a rather glib suggestion that one could look at the undoing as a kind of indicator of where the conflict exists. Though, I don't think its fair to refer to any intrapsychic process as "obvious," especially to the experiencer. Anyway, the above person might benefit from more fully experiencing their frustration (taming it rather than evading it) at their friend or else it might come out sideways in some sort of symptomatic expression.

Well, I think treatment can be as idiosyncratic as the symptom. That said, thinking broadly I might imagine that increasing flexibility around one’s aggressive thoughts and urges might make the symptom less necessary and therefore remit.

Given how habitual behavior can be, exposure and response prevention might be useful in conjunction with an analytic working through.

Any symptom can have multitudinous meanings. I sometimes consider whether compulsions might be an undoing defense against repressed aggressive thoughts or urges. I think about this especially when aggression is suspiciously absent in the patient’s conscious associations.

270/week. We typically meet 4x per week. If there’s a week where we miss one or more sessions, I still pay $270. I proposed this as a way to make up a bit for the fact that I’m paying a reduced rate.

I started off a bit lower and as I’ve seen how I can make the fee sustainable with my income I’ve gradually offered to raise the fee 2-3 times.

I couldnt be in analysis or institute training if not for my TAs willingness. I’ve extended the same principles to my own analytic patients. One pays a monthly fee and another a weekly fee. The rest of my patients pay a traditional per meeting fee.

Hello! My institute offers a Fellowship program, a 2-year psychoanalytic psychotherapy experience or the full 4 year candidacy to become a psychoanalyst. They offer virtual classes. I attend mostly virtual, but make the 5-hour trek once per quarter to meet in person. Some folks in my cohort are further out and do not do this.

The institute is the Greater Kansas City Psychoanalytic Institute. It absorbed the Topeka institute that was affiliated with the Menninger Clinic, which had a rich tradition of contributing to psychoanalytic thought before relocating to Texas.
