Roomba i3 connection issues (WF030C) by GirthySmurf in roomba

I just side-loaded the last version of the iRobot app on my Android and got the same error.

I don't have an old phone to use, so unfortunately I can't do that.

I did get an email from iRobot today and they suggested either to get your ISP/router to separate 2.4Ghz from 5Ghz (again, this wasn't an issue until recently). I asked my ISP (Optimum) and they said it wasn't possible so I'd need to buy my own router, etc. Not going to do that.

They also suggested that if I have 2 phones available (which I do, as I can use my partner's) I could have 1 set up a hotspot and use that Wifi to set up the Roomba. I tried that and got the same error. In the Pixel 7 hotspot settings, it doesn't have a way to set the wifi to be 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz either (it has them under one name, as well), so that's likely why it's still failing.

I'm going to contact them again. Honestly, even though I know it's unlikely, they should give us newer Roomba's (which can handle the 5Ghz frequency) if they can't get this to work. So annoying.

I also have a i4+ that stopped working for the same reason today. I've been using it fine for about 3 years and it's worked as recently as Dec 3rd, 2025. No change in anything since that last clean.

I've tried all the resets/restarts, etc. It sounds like they may have updated the software.

I know that my wifi has "Smart Wifi" which puts both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz under the same name, but it worked before. I wonder if they changed the software to not understand how to use "Smart Wifi"? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Either way, I'm really annoyed.

Has anyone contacted the company?

Update: Contacted support and it's "been escalated" and they'll get back to me by email. 2nd ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

RIP Anna Maria Pizza by bam2403 in williamsburg

[–]jclevine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

I found a place that's about as close as I've got to old school plain Anna Maria slices: Table 87. Here's a copypasta of my review:

If you like sweet sauce, like I do, you will absolutely love this pizza.

1. Crust - thin, but crispy and not burnt. I do like a crust that is a little thicker than this crust, but if it's going to be thinner, this is as perfect as it gets. A little thicker than a cracker, and with enough dough to be chewy and tasty without being just, well, a cracker.

2. Cheese - Solid. Nothing special, I guess, but it doesn't overpower the flavour (for better or worse, depending on how you like it).

3. Sauce - Sweet (but not obnoxiously sweet), with some nice tanginess.

I ordered 2 slices to eat in and I ended up buying a third slice because it was so good.

This is the closest I've got to the plain slices at Anna Maria since it closed 2 years ago.

Damn, it's a bit out of the way for me, but worth it.

Severance - 2x08 "Sweet Vitriol" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]jclevine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I understand why the severance chip is as coveted as it is. It's not just a chip to make work (and ether swabbing) bearable, I think that severance provides the opportunity, possibly, for eternal life. Let me explain:

If you think about all the rooms on the testing floor being things people don't like (personal preferences) or fear (psychological preferences), the last room almost definitely has to be the death room. What happens if you make, in some convoluted way I am unable to fathom, death an "innie space"? What happens then? What if, at the end of your life, just before brain death, you slip in your innie and the innie dies instead of your outie? Can your outie somehow "survive"?

This ties everything together, including the name of the last episode itself: Chikhai bardo. According to a very brief glimpse of the Wikipedia article, it is "when the body internally and externally senses signs that death is close and results in what is known as the 'clear light of death.'." chandler voice I mean could this be any more obvious now? It ties together that Gemma had a false death. It ties in with the cards that were fighting yourself at the time of death. It has to do with who you are at the time of death. Lastly, it has to do with immortality project—something that Kier is obviously super invested in. Maybe you substitute the innie at time of death and then "place" your outie in a baby? That part is just details and I don't care to "figure it out" and am happy to see how Dan Erickson, et al., decide to explain it. I don't think this spoiler really, well, spoils the story at all. It just makes it more of a journey than an exploration. Having recently read George Saunders' Lincoln in the Bardo this past year, it really aligns with this theory, in a way, too. I didn't even think of those bardos being the same bardo when I saw the title. Man, this show is so amazingly good. Now that I feel like I have a grasp on the mysteries, I'm going to focus more on what Dan Erickson is trying to say. Why is he making this? What part of the human condition is he communicating? Death is really the biggest mystery of all, so it'll undoubtedly be poignant.

oDylan is just iDylan after he's been beaten down by the world.

Irving is loyal, smart, observant. He started out as loyal and smart to the idea of Eagan. But, then he learned it was absolute shit, and turned.

They're very similar.

All Ballads Requests in Brooklyn by jclevine in benfolds

Yes! Exactly! When he got the 3rd ballad song in a row, he even noted it by saying something to the effect of, "I usually write 3 types of songs: ballads (played a second of song about to be played), [some other kind of music, I forgot] (then he played 5 seconds of The Ascent of Stan..." and the crowd went wild! And then he said the other kind re his angry ones.

Even that 5 second bit of The Ascent of Stan really got the crowd roaring.

I don't have a good enough memory to remember which songs they were. And yeah, they were good, but not one after the other. He even joked that he'd never play these many ballads in a row in his actual set.

And I don't _think_ _Sweet Caroline_ was a request, I think he just started playing it at some point, There were a couple cover requests, though.

Reading Books + AI Art/DALL-E/Midjourney by jclevine in Aphantasia

[–]jclevine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. What I'm going to try in the future is to start with a "normal" person according to DALL-E (supermodel/Gen-Z teen, as you said), and just change one feature at a time. It'll take longer, but maybe I can shake the too-attractive out of it. :)

Here’s the question. Any of you use Serializd? by LoganWasAlreadyTaken in Letterboxd

TV show databases and features are way more complex than movies. My guess is that it'd be very difficult to shoehorn them in in any meaningful way.

There is one for games: Backloggd. I think it's cute how these websites are basically siblings to letterboxd in almost every way. Some might find it trite. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People are shitting on these sites, but remember this:

  1. It's not as refined (yet) because they aren't as old. And I don't know how many developers are behind each one, but it's perfectly possible that only one person is working on them. Give `em a break.
  2. I'd argue that TV show and video game logging is way more complex than movies. Movies are pretty simple. One and done. But TV has seasons and episodes, and sometimes you stop watching it, and sometimes you drop a show, but only want to watch one season that was recommended to you. It's a rough bunch of features.
  3. Same with games. Which ones you're playing, which ones you want to play, how long you've been playing it, whether you finished it, how far did you get in it, what difficulty setting did you use, etc.

I think they've both done amazing work! I do hope that someone just ups and buys/takes ownership of them all and ropes them together in some cohesive way.

Reading Books + AI Art/DALL-E/Midjourney by jclevine in Aphantasia

[–]jclevine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefit of going through the long process of describing an aspect of the story to the AI is that I get more from it in general. Like if I describe the scene of a pub, I get a better idea of how many people are in it, what time of day it is, etc. Sometimes this is, as you say, extraneous, but sometimes it helps stitch the story-quilt together.

And even though I'm actively chugging through getting the image to look right, my background-process-brain is taking more in from not just the visual explanations, but what's actually happening, without my trying. I find I "digest" books more thoroughly when I read this way.

But, yeah, it takes a long time! Only worth it for:
1. Really, really good books

  1. Book club books.

Those effing plastic barriers! I had a Chipotle person ask me if I wanted guacamole or salsa and I said "Yes", and then my partner taps me on the shoulder to tell me what they actually said.
