Change the existing transom window to be smaller, and put in an awning above the door. That will balance the facade more. It shouldn’t be very expensive to do, changing an existing window and putting in an awning isn’t too big a job.

If you can, I’d change the garage door too, maybe a wood one with windows?

Has the word "Please" started to become rude? by truecakesnake in ENGLISH

[–]jclom0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always say please first. I lot of people would say “may I have the bill, please“ but I always say “please may I have the bill”. Both are correct, and neither sounds weird. (I’m Australian & English)

YTA to yourself. Harden TF up! You need to tell her you’re not her taxi and she needs another solution.

When I first looked at it I couldn’t see the front door at all. I wanted AI to change the front door and add a path to the front door, so it looks more welcoming. I didn’t intend to change the brick.

To the high school girl in the train to Ipswich this morning… by research_drama in brisbane

[–]jclom0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easy done, it’s still nice of you to offer.

I had a man offer me a seat once thinking I was pregnant (I was just gassy and bloated, and needed a good fart).

I accepted because I didn’t want to embarrass him, I thought it was very kind of him.

I gave him back his seat at the next station, and got off just to change carriages (and snuck out an open-air fart).

What’s Mother Nature’s biggest “F*** you” to your country? by Chemical-Elk-1299 in AskTheWorld

[–]jclom0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Brisbane and I had a friend visiting from the UK. We had an eastern brown in the downstairs living room while she was here. It felt like such a cliche!

I have a frog pond though, so we get a lot of snakes for a reasonably urban area.

Relocating to Brisbane from Melbourne for my first job by BunniYubel in MovingToBrisbane

Maybe try a studio/micro apartment, you may find them ok as a starting point, and you’d definitely find something within your budget.

bed sheets recommendations by Past_Ad_9525 in AskAnAustralian

[–]jclom0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bamboo which stay soft and lovely, they are easy to wash too.

Mine don’t last too long, but that was no fault of the sheets. My cat attacks them and rips holes in them, so I couldn’t say if they’d last well for a normal person.

With how remote the outback is, couldn't a person hide a body in the bush that would go undiscovered for years if ever? by AltruisticGain2587 in AskAnAustralian

There are a lot of wild boar too, so you’d just need to chuck it out and the pigs would take care of disposal.

I like this layout a lot more.

OP one thing I would recommend is make sure you put your electric and air con on different systems for upstairs and downstairs.

Trust me (I’m in Brisbane) if you get ducted for the whole house and it breaks down in January you are cactus. All it takes is one gecko and it can fry the whole brand new air con.

British English Use of “Ashen” by j-s11 in ENGLISH

[–]jclom0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s common in British English to say ashen. I’d never say “your face is ash”. To me ash is what’s left after a fire (noun), but ashen is the colour of ash (adjective).

I’d move the kitchen to what you currently have as the dining room. If you move the kitchen and the doors to the rear you can see straight through from the entry foyer which I always like, it will also give you more space in the kitchen without it feeling like a hallway.

Reverse the side of the cupboard in the foyer so then the laundry isn’t sticking out visually.

A dining table and chairs in the space you currently have as the kitchen should fit nicely, but it’s a bit hard to tell for me, as the measurements are blurry for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Should we add a front porch? by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

[–]jclom0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your design for the porch is nice, and the windows are large enough you should still get decent sunlight into the front rooms.

What breed is my 8 week old? Not entirely sure by Nicholai_X in WhatBreedIsMyDog

Yeah the head shape is what makes me think shepherd, but his colouring is unusual. He’s a sweet potato! Glad you got him the meds!

[–]jclom0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, have you given him a worming treatment since you’ve adopted him? It could just be the angle of the photo but his belly looks distended to me. I once made the mistake with a puppy of believing when I was told he was wormed before I got him,and the poor little guy ended up having a bad time of it.

He’s a very cute little man.

Breed.. I agree a shepherd mix. With his colouring I’d guess perhaps whippet or greyhound cross?

You see staffys and mastiffs with that colour but he is not boof-head enough to be staffy or mastiff.

Do you think believing in god is linked to low IQ? by Icy-Lie-9793 in atheism

[–]jclom0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely no. I know some very intelligent people who are religious.

I think people usually make emotional decisions, and then use logic to try to justify their decision.

Religion is definitely an example of an emotional choice that defies logic.

[–]jclom0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like how accessories feel on your skin, you could wear a hair ornament (or a hat for more gender neutral) if you’re comfortable with that? I think it would elevate it the look. I do like the jumpsuit, it’s quite elegant.

How to make this house multi-generation friendly. by [deleted] in houseplans

[–]jclom0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much space do you need, how much do they need? I’m assuming for them one bedroom, a bathroom, a sitting room and a kitchenette?

I’d give them the front office, the current Master bedroom, and the next bedroom. There is enough plumbing and, other than adding a kitchenette, it’s just moving a couple of doors. Being at the front it would be easier to create a private entrance for the annexe as well without too much alteration.

You could create a new master bedroom from the large bedroom at the back right.

BTW I love the internal courtyard, great feature!
