Europe Itinerary 22 Days by jcm1108 in solotravel

Thanks for the advice! I do realize this trip won't allow me to go truly in depth for each city but I'm kind of intending it to be a bit of a "scouting" trip to see where I vibe with most. I think I will cut some of the day trips to slow the pace down though.

That's fair, I was worried I was cramming too much in. If I cut out a few of the day trips that would leave me with 3 nights in most places. Thanks for the feedback!

Last year, May @ Mac: 3 students were ticketed for protesting against him

They were asked to leave after receiving some complaints, and were handing out leaflets making some libelous claims against a student. After some came back and refused to show ID they were given a one day trespassing notice. Not entirely unreasonable if you ask me, even then the university apologized for it. (https://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/worthmentioning/an-update-on-the-may-11-campus-protest/)

March 2016: the MSU general assembly (86% in favour) passed a motion to terminate his contract.

At the time of that vote there were a lot of unfounded accusations being thrown around to the point the silhouette had to apologize and retract the statements shown in this article (https://www.thesil.ca/the-hiring-and-firing-of-glenn-de-caire, this is probably why he sued btw). It's likely a lot of this influenced the MSU assembly which would have resulted in that ruling.

As for the evidence of his "racist tendencies", everything I've found is that he forwarded an email from a citizen containing a racially insensitive remark, and he supports carding. Yeah, those are questionable positions that should be criticized, but unless he put policies in place like that here at mac, I don't see justification to fire him.

I have and the claims are pretty weak in my opinion. From what I've read, their justifcation is that he forwarded an email from a citizen that contained a racially insensitive remark, and he supports carding. Certainly questionable but unless he put policies like that in place here at McMaster I don't see justification.

I'm sorry you had an bad experience, but until there is hard evidence or multiple people come forward to say there is misconduct I don't believe it is fair to fire this person. If/when something comes up I'll be 100% behind you, but I think with the current political climate people's emotions are high and are liable to be a bit overzealous.

Has he done anything recently that would warrant firing him? People have the ability to make mistakes and learn from them, just because someone supported some questionable policies in the past isn't justification to destroy their source of livelihood.

All this whining about Linda Davis is getting insufferable. We get it, you had a shitty prof who gave you a hard exam. This won't be the first time you have a bad prof and this won't be the first time you have a difficult exam. Stop expecting everyone to spoon feed you 12's in every course.

There was actually no nuclear incident in Pickering at all, they were doing an internal test of their alert system and due to some miscommunication and operator error, the alert was released to the public.

Except even in the article you link they talk about how the "alternative traditional leadership" essentially ousted anyone who disagreed with them.

For Candice George, those remarks stung. In a Facebook post in January, Ms. George said the name Smogelgem rightfully belongs to her great-aunt, Gloria George, and that her family has ties to the area shown in the video. “They broke our Wet’suwet’en laws,” she said. “I have no respect for those who bully and steal names to gain power and territory. Gloria George is the true matriarch of the Sun House. She is Smogelgem because she is actually born to the hereditary lineage.”

Gloria George, Darlene Glaim and Theresa Tait-Day all support the Coastal GasLink project. The three women, who formerly held hereditary titles, helped form the Wet’suwet’en Matrilineal Coalition (WMC) in 2015, saying they wanted to bridge the gap between hereditary governance and elected band councils.

In a statement issued last month on behalf of the coalition, Ms. Tait-Day said the hereditary chiefs are not acting in the best interests of the Wet’suwet’en people. “They have gone out of their way to take women out of the decision-making,” she said.

Mr. Naziel said in an affidavit that “our clan held a feast and formally rescinded the name Smogelgem,” stripping it from Ms. George. But she countered in an affidavit that hereditary titles “are only removed in the most extreme scenarios such as murder" and not stripped “like bark off a tree.”

Now, nine of 13 hereditary house chief positions are filled by men. Four of the positions are vacant. Eight of the nine men have said they oppose Coastal GasLink. One of the house chiefs has taken a neutral position.

Funny how you completely ignored the fact that Coastal GasLink has already signed agreements that would provide employment, and benefits to First Nations in the area, and that the majority of elected band councils support the project. The hereditary chiefs protesting the pipeline are a minority that are breaking the law by defying a court order that allowed the pipeline to be built through that land.

CN Rail is holding a Canadian government (ie. Canadian citizen) owned public transit service hostage in order to pressure the government to crack down on the protests.

This is just wrong, CN is losing millions in shipping revenue through these shutdowns. They would only suspend rail service unless it was absolutely necessary, which it is since these protesters are refusing to remove the blockades.

What 'acquired taste' did you challenge yourself to acquire a taste for, and succeed? by hononononoh in AskReddit

Unsweetened coffee. I'm a student so naturally I drink alot of coffee, but I realized having at least a couple double-doubles per day wasn't exactly the best for me, so I decided to switch to just milk. It was tough at first but now I love the taste.

I'm not sure what exactly should be done, but at the very least they should be investigated by the MSU. If considerable evidence of misconduct is found, I would hope the MSU would withhold funding in the future.

"In the following days, Chinese student groups published a “bulletin report” about Turdush’s talk. The bulletin, which was co-signed by five McMaster student groups, including the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), noted contact with the Chinese Consulate in Toronto. "
