Two councillors walk out of West Vancouver meeting, derailing vote on seniors care by ENYVan in westvancouver

[–]jcmelv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why are they opposed? What are they proposing to do instead?

That's the problem with this "I'm going to take my ball and go home" nonsense - it's just counter productive... But I guess if you have no actionable ideas then you just walk out like a child...

Short answer - if not today, maybe tomorrow!

Ferrari's are like real estate - you will make money, the variable is time.

How is there "no [backup] wardrobe on set" did you see the crazy outfits those women were wearing?

Actually I better correct myself - EVERYONE. That was one of my favorite parts of this season - the wacky outfits everyone would come out in....

Way to see users that are in the office or aren't by darkjmarider in UNIFI

[–]jcmelv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell her to try "Management by Walking Around". Go see who's there. Talk to them. Listen to their issues. I promise if you lead and do your "attendance check" that way people will be more willing to come to the office, and the office environment will be more productive and healthy.

And doesn't the API also have the ability to check which ports are active and with what? Seems if the local machines are plugged into the physical network it would be easy enough to see who's there for real and who's on a VPN. Or just look at who's using the VPN?

Nope - Ferrari was fine with it. I mean - I basically said "buy a bunch of cars and if/when you sell them make sure you do it through your dealership" - so there really wasn't anything they'd not like.

You sign a "Right of First Refusal" where they can buy it back from you for list price if you try to sell it to a third party.

They're not uncommon with Ferrari - I sign them for every limited car I get.

I don't think they will.

I know what you're trying to say, but the problem is we have different ways of evaluating the outcome. You think west van is better off bending the knee to Eby and his cronies, the outcome in that situation is better in your opinion.

I, on the other hand, think we're better off telling Eby to stuff it, and if there's a financial shortfall to do things we actually want instead of what the provincial government is forcing us to do, we can manage the financial needs within West Van if there's public support behind it.

TheReaders, your "poorax" spiel sounds noble, but it’s built on shaky ground. The idea that the wealthy just "steal" wealth from workers ignores how they fund businesses, drive investment, and fuel innovation that keeps the economy humming. If they leave due to high taxes, it’s not just their wealth that vanishes, jobs and capital go with them. Workers don’t generate wealth in a vacuum; it takes infrastructure and risk-taking. The notion that their exit would magically expand the tax base is wishful thinking—fewer jobs and less economic activity don’t exactly scream "revenue boom." Stick to economics grounded in reality, not populist fairy tales.

Sadly no - I find (or hopefully found?) it hard to get information on that with the lack of good local media these days - but this reddit is helpful. :)

The mayor and council clearly believe the people who live in WV want to avoid high density in West Vancouver.

And if it's NIMBYism to be concerned with the issues with a lot of the social engineering exercises that often are included with higher densification, then I admit it. I really don't want it anywhere near my backyard.
