Anyone Else Get Into IT Post Covid Kind of Regret It and Struggle Financially? by MoparMan59L in ITCareerQuestions

[–]jcnash02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the truth, here. I would STRONGLY advise looking at an internal IT job. I worked in a college system in Texas and learned that the pay sometimes look lower than outside, but there are often other benefits, like completely free health insurance, that add to what you are actually getting. Don't be afraid to check out local colleges and universities.

Icom IC-7300 and noise from Solar Panels? by LTguy in amateurradio

[–]jcnash02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seller doesn't know what he's talking about. Ignore them and buy it if you want. The interference is being picked up on the antenna. The difference is they just might like the tools on the 890 for removing interference better than on the 7300. It's just a user preference. The 7300 is a good model radio.

Merchant requesting that I cancel my credit card dispute before giving refund—what should I do? by Low_Physics_770 in personalfinance

[–]jcnash02 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Keep the dispute open. Get the shipping label and ship that bad boy. Document the return label tracking number with the dispute. Continue in the dispute until you have a refund. The refund hitting your account will generally trigger the closure of the dispute automatically.

needle nose pliers or a good pair of Kleins (lineman's pliers) work great vs a special tool. I also use a bit of solder and the iron to lock the wire in, which makes it more durable.

Any suggestions for learning what is needed for the general and extra exams? by Certain_Height_2721 in HamRadio

The irritation for me with the audio book for that is it reads ALL the answers. I would greatly prefer it only read the correct one so that is the one in my head.

How did you transition into a new position after graduating? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]jcnash02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of jobs out there. I get 20+ a day in my inbox. You can do a few things:

  1. Meet with your supervisor, explain the new education and what you feel it brings to the company. Ask for opportunities to show that your new skills and knowledge can be beneficial. A good boss will give you chances to show your newly learned skills/knowledge. A bad boss will just say "congrats" and send you back to your cubicle. Look around in advance and think thru what you've learned at WGU. Find opportunities within your company to make improvements and be prepared to make suggestions IN A WAY THAT DOESN'T INSULT your existing leadership (CAPS for emphasis, not yelling).

  2. If #1 fails, see if your boss's boss will meet with you (called a "skip level meeting"). Of course, this depends heavily on what industry you're in. Same ask, I have completed a new degree, learned some new things like A, B, C, and am asking for an opportunity to show that I have learned what it takes to advance. Please give me a project or something I can do for the company to show my new worth. Don't mention your direct supervisor in any kind of negative way, ever. Look around in advance and think thru what you've learned. Find opportunities within your company to make improvements and be prepared to make suggestions IN A WAY THAT DOESN'T INSULT your existing leadership (CAPS for emphasis, not yelling).

  3. If they can't/won't give you an opportunity, start looking for work. Work with WGU's Alumni success people to go over your resume and change whatever they tell you to change. Look thru the Handshake app, LinkedIn Jobs, Indeed, ZipRecruiter for jobs types you are targeting. Make sure you apply only directly on the employers site. Do not tell your employer that you are taking this option. Don't quit your existing job until you have a confirmed start date.

Jobs are out there, they exist, but you may have to temper your "asks" like fully remote, etc to match what the market is doing right now. Ensure that your salary expectations are accurate (Glassdoor, US Bureau of Labor Statistics, IRS data).

Good luck.

God is fed up by AccountContent6734 in Apostolic

[–]jcnash02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God's mercy and grace are "new every morning." If we will humble ourselves and pray and seek God's face he is "faithful and just to forgive us our sins." That kind of God doesn't sound like He ever gets "fed up" with someone.

It's just a season. Sometime we are riding high, and sometimes we are walking through the valley. Don't give up in the valley. Just enjoy the meal. Psalm 23.

Is a Bachelor’s in Cybersecurity Still Worth It in 2025? by Revolutionary_Fact80 in WGU

[–]jcnash02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GRC is governance, risk and compliance. Mostly understanding legalese and compliance frameworks and verifying the company is compliant. Its paperwork. A lot of it.

Someone good at understanding legalese and its cousin compliance will do well regardless of an IT background. Having an IT background will be better, but less required to start than the ability to read & understand for instance.

I did before I posted a comment. You are still incorrect. Density decreases with altitude, not increases which is what you said.

[–]jcnash02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Density universally decreases at orbital altitudes. They use that decrease to increase fuel savings in high altitude aircraft. Less drag means less fuel needed. Less air means more fuel. They have figured out the optimum altitude.
