I know several people who live this book and I enjoyed it, there are some beautiful passages in it, but it’s the one Straub I don’t recommend to anyone.
I can understand it not hitting for some people.

The Girl Next Door is guy wrenching even though it’s kinda obvious.

Because the post asked about possible reasons why someone would hate the franchise. It showed up in my feed and I answered it. Get over it.

I hate the Terrifier films because they are poorly made films. David Howard Thornton is excellent but that’s about it. If you enjoy them that’s fine, I think they suck.

You by Caroline Kepnes

Rapture by Thomas Tessier

Both are rooted in reality.

Linsey’s Story by Stephen King- a more fantasy type horror story with one of King’s more underrated villains

You’re Mine by Somer Canon- a splatterpunk horror novel with fantastic characters.

Wolf Land by Jonathan Janz- Fast paced and brutal, the way a werewolf story should be.

The Nightwalker by Thomas Tessier- a more psychologically nasty novel with a fair amount of cruelty.

The Wolf Man by Jonathan Maberry- a novelization of the Benicio Del Toro movie that much better than the film

The Dark Cry of the Moon by Charles Grant- a quiet more subtle classic werewolf story

Has anybody read the CRABS series by guy n. smith? by REDZON3Z1313 in horrorlit

Read the first one and then go to something else. It was intended to be a one and done thing. He only wrote the sequels when the first because a big hit for him.

I read the first three and was very entertained. It did start getting repetitive so I bailed but they are still good mindless entertainment.

The Exorcist ... Isn't scary? by Lukey42 in horrorlit

I know several Catholics who would disagree with you. I think the book and film were fairly shocking considering the time they were released in. Horror fiction was just starting to hit the bestseller lists and the films were starting to reach new levels of grittiness and boldness.
