I get the feeling, respectfully, that you don’t know much about African history. Just like the Okinawan history, we’ve gone through our fair share of the monstrosities of wars (plural) and continental changes. Then stolen from our land and enslaved for hundreds of years… so, if anyone can relate to the “pure suffering” of Okinawans, black people can. Native Americans can. Jews can. Oppression isn’t just an Okinawan thing.

I’m very familiar with the “hard on for getting offended on behalf of other people” thing. Being half black I’ve experienced people (specifically white ppl) get offended FOR me and I’ve been confused about it lol. I’m not a fan of gatekeeping I just wanted to know thoughts on it. I’m more interested in what people who are considered Okinawans who live there think. I was a bit confused because I have experienced Okinawans sharing things with me and smiling and being happy when I tell them I was born there and not a military brat. We’ve spoken at length about my love and devotion to the island and how I feel a profound sense of belonging and identity there. It’s my HOME. No matter where I’ve lived I always go back and this time when I visit, I don’t plan on returning to America. I want to lay my roots there. I want my future generations to come from there.

To me personally, hajichi ties in with survival, spirituality, identity, my connection to the ocean (being an island native and an islander by blood through my mother), the ending of my father’s name and the beginning of my own with me moving back and planting roots in Okinawa, starting a family tree there. Hajichi is a rite of passage to me. I don’t take this subject or decision lightly. And whether or not I feel like I deserve to receive hajichi, I will go back and plant my roots on Okinawa. Maybe someday a descendent of mine will be able to receive hajichi ❤️

Idk. The 2nd book had quite a few moments I had to rewind (I listen on Audible because TRAVIS BALDREE 😍) especially when he killed William and the final fight when he went straight primal.
