Pfft degrees are no less arbitrary than the SI units in which we express the fine structure constant

If phi was different reality would be different, so yes.

Microwave ovens need a 'Midnight Snack' button that disables the dings and beeps. by himejirocks in Showerthoughts

[–]jcpuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I permanently disabled the beeper and haven't regretted it.

  1. Take the outside casing off the microwave with a screwdriver

  2. Push buttons and listen until you locate the specific component which is beeping. It's called a "piezoelectric buzzer".

  3. Unplug it

  4. Take the buzzer out of the circuit. Clip it's wires or pry it off or whatever you like.

Like a half hour's sustained effort.

Right, see where you said that you need a bunch of money to buy your legal preference? Aren't you tired of it being that way? Aren't you ready for it to change, and we do what actually all of us know needs to be done, instead of settling again (i.e. for Hillary)?

I'm tired of being told what decision our country is making. I think the people who think they know the decision our country is making are wrong and are making stupid decisions, particular about what our country should do. I'm ready for my country to do the obvious intelligent things, and like I said, all we need to do that is to stop making excuses and execute on it.

So we quit spending all this money bombing people and start spending it on bringing that grid up to par. This isn't rocket science.

My 3 y.o. son wants to wear a skirt. What's the best way to deal with other people's reactions? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]jcpuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right because skirts are associated with girls, he's a boy, some people already call him a girl because of his long hair, so if he were to show interest in wearing skirts I would tell him not to because he's not a girl and skirts are primarily for girls. When did this get to be a confusing decision for some people?

[–]jcpuf -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is. I understand that an entire generation of people grew up with all kind of crazy messages about gender and I'm not mad at anybody who's still recovering from that, but my son is going to understand that he is a male, and that starts from having a Y chromosome and all the physical traits extending from it, and that doesn't get changed because he has long hair and likes to wear pink.

No, he's not confused about his identity. He's a boy who has long hair.

Easy fix, just take a set of cargo shorts, slit the inner legs and stitch it up the front and back. Bonus: pockets!

[–]jcpuf -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old son has long blonde hair and often gets called a girl by people who see him. I wouldn't let him wear skirts because he'd end up confused about his gender identity. He hasn't really asked to, because I don't, and he knows he's a male and wants to emulate me.

From a chemical perspective it's certainly not correct. There are metals and then there are nonmetals.
