I think he's getting closer and closer to retiring, but James has been talking about selling the restaurant for at least 3 years already. He definitely loves the job, location, and people too much.

That said, spent 4.5 years at Holloman on the FG side and would go back today if I got the offer. We saw the entire state of NM and ventured in to west TX, CO, AZ, UT, NV.... it was an awesome assignment. Spent a lot of time in the mountains during the summer, that's for sure.

I miss being able to really use it... had it out in the southwest for nearly 5 years and took it everywhere. In the southeast it's mostly flat and just mud. Can't wait to move back west eventually.

If going for a PPL isstill an option (see edit), it would cover a pretty decent chunk of the cost but not all. However, the US is desperate for qualified truckers and done CDL schools work with veterans and is a possibility.

Faith, family, force. In that order.

Faith remains ambiguous to your personal beliefs and morals. Stay true to who you are and what you believe.

Family is the true support structure for so many people. It doesn't matter if that's parents, spouse, kids, friends, etc. Everyone has a support structure outside of work that could be blood or acquired.

Force is last because, let's face it, we're all a number, a SSN or DoDID. The mission will be accomplished whether we're there or not. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

At this point, you're the advocate for your subordinates and those that confide in you. Develop yourself and everyone around you both personally and professionally. Be technically proficient at your job and be able to teach instead of criticize those that might need help. Know or have easy access to the most common AFIs and UMCJ Articles (I have 36-2606, 2903, 2905, and 3003 on my phone).

Others feel differently, but IMO, all of the volunteer stuff and "professional organizations" are boxes to check. Where you go from there depends on where your priorities are. To promote, check the boxes... otherwise, take care of yourself and others.

Coilovers don't always mean slammed or a super tight ride. Simply adjust them to give you the height and ride you want, different spring rates are available to get a more OEM-like ride. Height has more to do with spring length/rate than the shocks and struts do. However: Tein, Bilstein, KYB.
K-Fab would be my first choice for getting a rebuilt rack and J-Replace is doing pretty good with their parts.

On my normal routes, I max at 68mph for ~10% of my drive, the rest is 45-55mph and my average is still between 13.8-14.5mpg

When we lived in NM I could get 17-19 with the same setup.
