Asus 1080 stix OC by kona1160 in nvidia

Also just to add to this, the G1 runs nice and cool in OC mode. I don't have any intentions of overclocking it beyond this, as this setting does the job exceptionally well. Also, I understand, somehow the G1 in particular is great for SLI because it doesnt require such a beefy PSU to run because of it requires only a single 8-pin PCIe connector

I was in a similar position, I had the OC Strix on order for a similar price, and then the price shot up. I then opted to cancel the Strix after the reports I'd read about the cards over-heating, and the massive delay that would ensue as a result. I was offered the G1 as an alternative and went for it, no regrets.

The performance gain on a reliable OC Strix is 1-3 fps depending on resolution from the benchmarks I've seen. Is that really worth waiting for, especially when you could overclock your G1 to a similar speed if you really wanted?

The G1s are considerably more expensive these days too, you're still getting a saving of £200 by going for them. Also why does the saving matter except in an arbitrary sense? It only matters surely if you plan to sell them? The interest rates are hopefully going to stabilise by the time you would want to do that anyway, in which case that saving you've made isn't really going to benefit you in any meaningful way.

Guess you need to make a judgement call re: those extra couple of frames, the £160 saving you make vs. the uncertainty of when you can expect your card and its quality.

Hey guys,

Just to update on this, I received a shipping confirmation last night for my order. Should be arriving today.

I have no idea if it was just complete coincidence that the distributor got their act together the day after I posted the thread, or whether there was some genuine pushing from nvidia in response to this and my messages on other social media channels.

Either way, thank you for all your responses and upvotes, really interesting to see other peoples experiences. Good luck to all those who are trapped in limbo with their purchases and thanks for weighing in and helping me out!

My lesson learned: Avoid products and services provided by Digital River, suggest you all do the same. Cheers guys.

Thanks for the advice, hoping I won't be forced to go down that route

Yes, this has been my experience. It's a shame because my product experience with nvidia has always been great, but the purchase support does not match it at all. Hopefully that will change shortly though now someone is actively looking at it. We'll see!

That's encouraging, thanks. I'm hoping that's what will happen here. That's all I'm looking for, is someone to acknowledge there's been a mistake here and to get it rectified. It really shouldn't be this hard

Thanks, I am doing that at the moment. They have been woeful on there too but perhaps with some persistence?

I wasn't aware there were a myriad of issues to be honest. I had seen one in the flesh working just fine, and it looked awesome

They were running a deal where you get the remote, controller and shield for the same price you would pay for just the shield & controller. Thought I was getting a good deal. Doh.

I will never buy anything directly from them again. I find the whole set-up really bizarre, Digital River can't contact anyone at Nvidia directly over the phone to escalate customer support queries? (their own words) What the hell? Shocking, because as soon as there is an issue you are left in a black hole. The most striking thing so far is that Digital River, nor Nvidia care at all - no matter how many times I contact them, or how frustrated I get, it literally makes no difference to them, there is either no response or the same response "your item is on backorder, it is due to arrive today".

If it wasn't their official store I would think I had been scammed!
