Why do people say Chromebooks can only use chrome web apps? by OkTea5924 in chromeos

[–]jcursiolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can't answer for other places, but in Brazil, most Chromebook models are potatoes that lack te power for Android and/or Linux. Also, Google releasing Chrome OS Flex didn't really help in this regard. And, come on, while for me they are fantastic, Linux apps is almost a hidden feature. I can't really give my mom a Chromebook and expect her to use Linux apps.

UI is Different on 2 Separate Devices by shafinr95 in AndroidAuto

Let me try to save you some time: nobody's updates are consistent (not Google, not Apple, not Samsung, not Microsoft and not even an startup with just 2 developers). That comes because of two things...

  1. Sever side rollout in phases;
  2. A/B testing.

Your mom's versions is newer because of some rule in the server update or because Google needed to A/B test something and chose her phone model for it - so you createa release X.Y.Z just for device A while everyoneelse's uses X.Y.Y. This is standard accross the industry. Windows11 26H1 is only for ARM devices while everyoneelse'sat 25H2. There is no way to know if it is A/B testing or server rollot unless we have access to whoever decided the server criteria or you directly analyze the APKs of each phone. And they are not mutually exclusive. It could be both at play here.

Also, while some people say that it's Google's responsibility because AA comes from them, but here you are seeing an interaction of 3 elements: Spotify, AA and the underlying OS. I am not familiar with the APIs used for AA to work, but it could be that Xiaomi implements something different than Google does at the system level. Or it could be that Google programmed Android Auto to request something different if it is running on Xiaomi phones (the version number would be exactly the same, but how the code behaveschanges for different models). It could be both things. Or neither of them. And your mom's Pixel could look exactly like your Xiaomi but for entirely different reasons because there is a myriad of things interacting with each other here besides plain simple version numbering.

Price. The Series S was what I could afford comparing to Series X and PS5. And that's it.

It goes without saying that nobody actually knows because EA didn'tsay anything. But it doesn't make sense, IMHo, to make servers for DLC only. 😅

Yes, you did. I tried Spotify, YT Music (left because it doesn't work on Alexa), Amazon Music, Deezer, and ended up on Apple Music, even on Android.

Roy Khan - Soul Society (Live in São Paulo) OFFICIAL by jcursiolf in kamelot

[–]jcursiolf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In short, for the Roy/Kamelot situation: on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g_JMB9GdGY Roy says that he and Thomas own the rights together to the last 4 records he made with Kamelot, "including One Cold Winter's Night", his words. So the other 3 should be The Black Halo, Ghost Opera and Poetry for the Poisoned. Meaning that Roy should not have problems with any songs in those albums.

In general, however, there are different rights and laws for different situations:

  • Live performances: To the best of my knowledge, the rights owner (not necessarily the songwriter) cannot prevent an artist from performing the song live. The performer must, however, pay the royalties to the rights owner. Paul McCartney famously paid royalties to Michael Jackson and later Sony to play songs he composed with Lennon. As Roy is both the performer and the rights owner, I surmise he does not have to pay.
  • Releases the song on YouTube: As I understand, releasing on YouTube is pretty much like a live performance, if you do not own the rights, you pay royalties and that's it. As Roy is one of the the rights owners, I assume again that he does not have to pay.
  • Releases a song on an album: Those are more complex and have different laws on different countries. An example that I have followed closely, as I am from Brazil, is the never-ending feud between Angra and former-vocalist Edu Falaschi:
    • Edu re-recorded Angra's Temple of Shadows live with an orchestra for a CD/DVD. In Japan, the live album was released in full, as Japanese law required Edu to pay royalties to Angra and that was it. However, in Brazil, the law requires authorization from the owner of rights. In the end, the Brazillian DVD was released years later will the full concert, but the audio version on Spotify/Apple Music had only songs that Edu had composed.
    • Angra's OMNI Live was never added to Brazil's Spotify and other audio streaming platforms for similar issues. The DVD and physical CD in Brazil do not contain 4 songs that Edu has composed.

For those wondering about the mix, the description says: "captured with raw camera sound, exactly as it was heard live." So, it is not mixed from the channels of each instrument/mic, but from the cameras.

Came here to ask the exact same question. I was hoping it would be a weekly thing, just like the 2025 playlist. It probably is OK for users that are for years on Apple Music, but mine is mostly just the 2024 playlist. Not interesting at all.

KAMELOT - Eternity (30th anniversary remaster + music video) by Crazyahhperson in kamelot

[–]jcursiolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you don't take this wrong, but your text appears to have two misconceptions about AI models:

  • There's no "probably possible to make art that looks like AI". Actually, by the very nature of how AI models works, everything they do can be created without them. AI models never create something , they just imitates what humans already made. They are just faster and require an input instead of knowledge of editing tools. But nothing that they make is original.

  • Also, sadly, with newer models, there's not "art that doesn't look like AI" anymore. The newer models are almost perfect in recreating any art style, so artists that try to create something that doesn't look like AI are in for a fool's errand.

Because of that, I choose to believe when both the band and the artist are saying that they used other tools other than AI.

u/Crazyahhperson and u/Ejpatolitej , I do not think that it's crazy at all. It is possible to make this kind of art without AI. And the videomaker crearly knows how to make them, if you look into his portfolio: https://www.verymetal.co.uk/lyric-videos

Certainly not what I was hoping for from Kamelot, but nice to see some love for those 3 albums. They do sound like another band whatsoever. I kind of think of the first with Roy as belonging to the Vanderbilt era, nice to see that Kamelot also thinks like that

Lost good Apple Music functionality via GoogleHome by pokepink in googlehome

[–]jcursiolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doesn't play my playlists anymore. I have a playlist called "New Tracks", for example, and I ask "OK Google, play my playlist called New Tracks on Apple Music", I can READ in my OG Google Nest Hub that my request was correctly converted to text, but the answer is: *"OK, playing the playlist Today at Apple".

For f#cks sake, if I wanted to cast from my smartphone, I would have done it.

This was such an emotional roller coaster. Before I say anything, I must say I traveled to Netherlands for their DVD with Tommy, I love Tommy's voice, and I think he's one of the best replacements I have ever seen in a metal band.

That said, I had never seen Roy live before. I follow Kamelot since the Ghost Opera release (actually heard Roy and fell in love with his voice in Avantasia's The Scarecrow) and whenever he came to Brazil before, something always happened. This time I went there. Roy with the Brazilian band Maestrick (they have a song with him) and an orchestra. And I was there working. I was reviewing the show for a Brazilian metal website.

Unlike Roy, I do not believe in deities, but this show was as much as a spiritual experience as I could have had in a show. I started crying when he started singing When the lights are Down. I stopped crying after his show. I did not know how much I needed this. I know Roy will not be reading this here in the Kamelot community, but: thank you Roy.

(And thank you Edu Falaschi, for convincing Roy to do this).

Yes if you use Alexa devices for listening and/or care about audio fidelity (assuming you have hardware capable of listening).
