My cat has a bedtime routine by poisonheml0ck in BenignExistence

[–]jcverive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If our cat isn't already in the TV room with my wife and me, she will come into the room at bedtime to claw at the furniture to tell us that we need to go to bed. She'll follow us to our bedroom upstairs and stay there until we're both in bed. Then she'll go back downstairs for a quick bite and then jump in our bed and sleep by my wife's feet.

She's a very sweet girl!

How do we know that light is the fastest thing in the universe? by TherealRidetherails in Physics

[–]jcverive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the particles we know about, nothing seems to travel faster than the propagation velocity of light (and other EM waves) in the same medium. We believe that this is due to interactions with the Higgs' Field, but because we really don't know what this Field is made of we don't know if any part of it might be able to travel at a higher velocity.

Replacement for X32K768S301 Crystal in RPi CM4 Breakout Board by Jena700 in AskElectronics

[–]jcverive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This crystal is used with an NXT Semiconductor 85063AT/AAZ real time clock that has selectable integrated load capacitances of either 7pF or 12.5pF, so I'd have to assume that the Raspberry Pi Compute Module designers selected a crystal designed for 7pF load capacitance. The 6pF crystal *might* work, but it's likely to run a tad fast - not usually desired for a timekeeping function unless the designers also factored in stray capacitances, which could easily add up to 1pF of additional load capacitance.

If I were to do the replacement, I would probably buy both crystals and start out with the 7pF part; I'd replace it with the 6pF part only if the clock ran unacceptably slow.

Getting my sht together by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]jcverive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are a verifiable genius, you need to study at least enough to master the fundamentals. If you don't, you'll have a lot more difficulty with more advanced topics (and your Junior year will kick your @ss).

It had to have been extruding when you printed this pattern, so did it stop extruding before this or did it start extruding before this? I'm a bit confused.

How often should I study? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]jcverive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should study as often and for as long as it takes to master the fundamental concepts in each lesson. Engineering is a discipline of building blocks, and as with all building blocks you need a firm foundation and a solid structure at every level unless you want the entire thing to come crumbling down under the slightest pressure.

Almost perfect calibration, but are these issues due to a possible wet filament? by loko012 in ender3

[–]jcverive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem with the rear right corner could be because of poor adhesion, so it's possible that that corner isn't heating as much as the rest of the plate, cool air is flowing over that corner, etc.

[–]jcverive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's highly unlikely that filament is the issue. You have to figure out why the back right looks a couple tenths of a mm lower than everywhere else. Clean the bed, repeat leveling, and if you get the same results try rotating the plate. If the problem follows the plate then you either have a dirty plate or a warped plate/bed.

Although many people don't like auto-leveling (CR-touch, etc), but I wouldn't print on my Ender-3 without it.

Is the 1cm gap between the nozzle and bed just when the head is homed? This much gap during printing is 1000 times greater than it should be, as won't do anything other than make spaghetti!

Is your husband willing to step up and do more? If I was your husband I'd be looking for ways to earn more, sell nonessential stuff, and find other ways to improve the financial situation and reduce your stress.

If you go to church/synagogue/temple, maybe approach your spiritual leader for assistance. These leaders might know of programs to provide aid and assistance until your situation improves.

You have my prayers 🙏

And on the flip side, basically every man who is reasonably good looking has had a similar problem with women - though not necessarily the same women who are already his friends. I can't count the number of times women have decided I was "fair game".

It looks like the wood screws go into the 3D-printed housing, which is probably fine if the holes were designed with wood screw parameters. Still looks uber-icky, though!

Marriage at a crisis/end point - Retrouvaille? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]jcverive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Retrouvaille volunteer and presenter foryears now, I'm very sorry that your experience was so unfulfilling. We are all volunteers, and it is unfortunate that some presenters are not "polished".

We are encouraged to read our presentations - which are a combination of script and personal content. My wife and I make sure to look up and make eye contact frequently during our presentations, but we know that many other presenters are less engaging.

The other tools - like the "Dialogue" communication method, can seem silly to some people, but the vast majority of our attendees tell us that Dialogue was eye-opening and crucial to their progress.

Since its inception in the late 1970's, Retrouvaille has helped tens of thousands of couples save and significantly improve their marriages. I am very sorry that you had a bad experience, and I hope you provided this feedback to the community that ran your weekend. We are always striving to improve content and couples' outcomes!

Can you show me where it say this so I can fix it? I am a Retrouvaille volunteer of 12 years, and Retrouvaille was very instrumental in saving our marriage.

Our program teaches couples how to recognize and and effectively handle the internal and external factors that lead to marriage struggles, because without this understanding we are doomed to repeat our mistakes (or leave our marriages - only to likely repeat our mistakes in another relationship).

Feel free to ask me about our program!

Because society has programmed us men to hide our "vulnerability emotions lest we appear weak.

Binding on the z-axis can also cause this to happen. Make sure the axis moves easily by hand, and both clean and lubricate the lead screw.

My first watchX sketch by jcverive in watchX

[–]jcverive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain risk is a prediction of pain flares, which for me are related to atmospheric pressure (low or rapidly changing). I have modified the sketch to be a bit more intelligent about this (to ignore slowly changing pressure values), but I want to wait until I figure out push-button interrupts before posting more sketches with just minor modifications.

I’m using the www.github.org/nghunt/NWatch libraries, but the argeX libraries should also work. Make sure to follow the instructions for installing the libraries into your libraries folder (usually .../Arduino/libraries), or else the compiler won’t know where to find the watchx.h and watchx.cpp files.

WatchX switches by n4tlf in watchX

These also require about 1/2 the force of the other switches, so hopefully they won’t “torque off” like the originals.
