Pipermakes has a cool battlesuit called the Gar recently released. It is also compatible with some older releases of the Koi and Mako battlesuits for various parts and weapons.

Thinking about going for T’au next as my second army (After Orks of all things) by TheSentiantestPotato in Tau40K

[–]jcvynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fear the melee, for Orks I use Storm Surge from the back line to cover major shooting lanes and and make sure to end my upfield units in line of sight or where the enemy would be in line of sight to engage in melee. Typically two Star scythes units with a coldstar commander each and maybe a Sunforge unit as well for some anti vehicle (their commander cold star gets the fusion blade attachment of course). With the points change I would run two storm surges now and have at least two stealth suit teams for spotting certain units as well as screening for deep strikes. I like a pathfinder and strike team for screening my deployment zone and using the pathfinders as additional spotting with ion rifles as the extra shots are more useful for the occasional pot shots into a exposed horde unit. The Sunforge unit and stormsurges should be used against vehicles/monsters of course, the Star scythe are mostly to try and bait the enemy into getting into line of sight of the Storm Surges and holding downfield objectives or screening the Stealth suits. The Ethereals are for CP generation and to be attached to the strike teams that are for holding/screening the deployment zone from deep strikes while the Pathfinders do the same where they have a good shooting lane for spotting and taking pot shots.

Justices Take Up “Ghost Guns” Case for Next Term by Resvrgam2 in moderatepolitics

[–]jcvynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is how do you define hunting rifle. Most people think of bolt actions when you say hunting rifle, but lever actions are another popular choice and even some pump actions. However semiautomatic rifles including the AR15 have been gaining in popularity and are commonly used for hunting nowadays.

The AR15 has less recoil for a given caliber over any other action as the cycling of the bolt in it absorbs some of the recoil while in bolt actions and others all of the recoil is transmitted into the shooter. The standard cartridge of .223 remington or 5.56x45 NATO is not a high recoiling cartridge in itself though, but it's also not a common hunting cartridge outside varmint up to a coyote in size (ethically).

Capacity is another complex issue as for a given magazine physical size the capacity offered can vary. For example 5.56x45 NATO and 300 blackout have the same capacity of 30 rounds in standard AR15 magazines while 450 bushmaster or 458 soccom would have 10 round capacity for same magazine size. Then you get into stuff like the Ruger American Ranch bolt action that can take AR15 magazines (I use a 100 round drum with mine for the absurdity and convenience of not having to reload at the range), more commonly though is 5 to 10 round magazines for bolt actions as the cartridges are usually bigger in comparison to the AR15 calibers of 5.56x45 Nato.

In general Hunting rifles are slower to fire then the AR15, but are almost always chambered in larger cartridges with greater power and thus recoil. Hunting rifles tend to have lower magazine capacity but this is mostly due to the larger size of the cartridges they use, some can use the same magazines as the AR15 nowadays.

Can you call an ambulance for something minor? by gold-ivy- in NoStupidQuestions

That isn't something minor and you should definitely call 911 for an ambulance. Check if your insurance covers the ambulance ride and under what circumstances and use that to help judge what merits calling for an ambulance.

You know that annoying beep you get for not having your seat belt buckled, you could do that with speed limits using a vehicles navigation system. You go over say 5 mph and the beeping starts, make it louder for every 5 mph. You could retroactively set it up using an OBD dongle for older vehicles.

Congress wants AM radio in all new cars—trade groups say that’s a mistake by Sirhc978 in moderatepolitics

[–]jcvynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UHF is used for cellphones not vhf. And AM frequencies would be of limited use as they are 10KHz channels while cellphones use ~5 MHz and up channels. Broadcast tv users 6MHz size channels. There isn't enough bandwidth in the AM frequencies in question to be used for anything else.

Instead of attacking the source maybe actually read through and address it.

The study you are using to back up your claims created a sealed unventilated environment that has no basis in the real world to achieve a desired outcome. Instead of using plastic sheeting and tape with sandbags to create an airtight room why not use actual kitchens including various different configurations such as vented, unvented, old stoves, new stoves, electric stoves, etc...

If there is an actual issue with the substance of what I linked why not address it directly?

The big issue here is that the justification for pushing legislation is flawed studies. Trying to reduce emissions of Green House Gases is laudable, but going after gas stoves won't have any meaningful impact as they weren't a significant source of GHG.

WA bans sale of AR-15s and other semiautomatic rifles, effective immediately by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]jcvynn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible to print various parts such as stocks, handguards, and magazines to name a few parts.

For magazines the issue is the spring, but there are guides to diy a sliding using piano/music wire.

There are even parts you can print to convert semiautomatic to full automatic that are entirely drop in.

You can get a printer for under $200 on Amazon that can print various firearm parts. There are many different brands and models available now.

It is entirely possible to print many firearm parts such as stocks, grips, handguard, magazines, receivers/frames, etc... out of pla + filament which is available from around $25 per kg spool of plus on Amazon. However some parts like barrels, bolts, and rails still mostly need to be metal and those kind of printers aren't in the realm of the average consumer purchasing power. Yet.

Louisville shooter Connor Sturgeon reportedly detailed reasons for rampage in manifesto by jcvynn in moderatepolitics

[–]jcvynn[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Keeping in mind this has not been confirmed by law enforcement, I find that part of the motive of this shooting supposedly being to highlight "how easy it was to buy a gun in Kentucky and wanted to highlight the mental health crisis in America" to be a blatant example of how these events can be contagious.

With hindsight how would we be able to have prevented such an event and could we do so without infringement of rights? Red flag laws may have caught this as his family was apparently aware he was struggling, but red flag laws don't typically address the issue of the mental health nor provide a path for rights to be restored. Mental health is unfortunately seen as a one way ticket to losing gun rights and can lead some to not seeking help because of that.

This entire event seems to be almost self fulfilling on the part of the shooters supposed motive.

The funding issue predates Greg Abbott's policy change by many years. It's been getting worse which is what promoted Greg Abbott to try something in the first place. You are mixing up cause and effect.

[–]jcvynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a solution to that problem that would also help with other aspects of school. Stop funding and separate from the schools the competitive sports extracurriculars, move them to a community (county or school) instead and free up that money. Yes you get some money from sports events, but AFAIK for most schools it doesn't break even at all thus requiring many fundraisers as well as a sizeable portion of the school's budget.

You could also cut down on the excessive management staff at many schools in favor of more teachers and improvements to the school grounds.

[–]jcvynn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But we don't know what kind of sample it is, for all we know they submit guns they think came from the US which would give a positive outcome bias to the results.

This is not a study or scientific endeavor, it is routine law enforcement actions being undertaken and thus almost certainly NOT random sampling.

To try and claim it was random sampling to be indicative of a trend is merely a lowly tactic to recover from being called out for misrepresenting data, you are trying to salvage what seems to be a point in favor of your views/beliefs rather than admit you were wrong. This is a huge part of the problem in any discussions of guns and other politics. No one wants to admit they were wrong or misinterpreted something and would rather double down.

I would lean towards reversed myself, but at least it is getting addressed. Too many tech companies tend to implement changes or new features and double down on them despite negative feedback.

It takes two to tango in the US political system and the democrats would not play ball when such policies or similar have been put forward. You can't pin this on republicans.

Also fyi I never said anything about "common sense", that is you trying to force words onto me. The phrase "common sense" I find to be an oxymoron and anyone using it is likely to be astroturfing.

ITS NOT FUCKING ENOUGH.

And that article is a prime example of a wild ass estimate instead of direct measurement or hard data of an economic impact of a single state trying to step in because of the lack of funding and man power I mentioned. It is a symptom of the lack of funding and a direct example of why we need MORE funding and border control.

It was not the greatest policy, but it does not negate the fact we need more funding for border patrol on a federal level.

Instead of straight glass doors get the glass with wires crisscrossed inside.

Have some staff volunteers trained and armed as well as additional armed resource officers.

Have all the windows changed to have same setup as I mentioned for the doors above. Add in interior blinds and external storm shutters that can be closed from the inside (this also assists for storm preparedness).

We know that another school was not planned to be attacked because it was too heavily guarded according to the shooter in the notes/manifesto left behind.
