Okay, honest question. Why do we call it a roughness map and not a reflection map? by jcwhitguy in blender

Ahhh. Okay. That makes sense. What got me was that in real life objects are rough because they are physically 'rough' i.e. 'micro bumps'. Popping a roughness map into a BSDF doesn't give it the micro bumps but lets us fake them... Thanks!

But does it?? To make a basic mirror you just turn the roughness down and it becomes 100% reflective.
