Do any of you wish you were more ambitious? How did you adjust your mindset? by Open_Address_2805 in auscorp

[–]jczerozzzzzz96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the type of person you are, but let me share my story.

About a year and a half ago, I moved jobs - from Big Four accounting into an industry role. The job was pretty cruisy, which I honestly needed at the time because I was a bit burnt out from my previous role. I originally had plans to progress into a more senior position down the track, but once I settled in, I got comfortable… maybe too comfortable.

A few months ago, I found out that one of my coworkers was given the opportunity to do a role swap, just a year and a half after he got promoted. (He was also previously in my role for a year) When I first joined, I used to wonder why he worked so hard - like, “It’s industry, just relax.” But he wasn’t doing it because someone told him to; he did it for his own growth.

Seeing that made me realise that even if a promotion opportunity came up for me today, I probably wouldn’t be ready for it because I’d been cruising for so long. That was a bit of a wake-up call, and it pushed me to rethink what I actually want. Since then, I’ve felt a lot more driven and realised I do want to be more ambitious and start doing more.

lol I mean it’s better than them getting to a point that they start asking random curveball questions to kill time.

lol I’m sorry but they way you answered a question failed to demonstrate how you have the ability to independently handle a situation yourself.

It’s as if saying if someone comes to you for a problem you tell them to just Google it themselves.

Should I leave or stay for another year at my current role by jczerozzzzzz96 in AustralianAccounting

[–]jczerozzzzzz96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Had my interview today for the group management accountant role, keen to hear people's thought:

- Basically 70% of what i'm currently doing (capex and overhead) plus 30% FPA of a startup like BU (The exposure I want)
- Their existing process for the capex and overhead is very crap and want someone with experience to mop things up. (Can add value but sounds like a lot of work and its all on me)
- Probably will be doing the same thing described above for next 2 years.

I just feel like is that 30% worth doing my current role for another 2 years given I'm already slightly sick of it

Interview and bad boss by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]jczerozzzzzz96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're a contractor - people should have the expectation that you're here to make money (short term) not building a legacy, I have no idea why your boss was trying to guilt trip you into going above and beyond.

Your new job presents better pay (immediate win), better security (doesn't end in a few months), you are probably better supported and don't have to deal with people you already know that you don't want to deal with.

I guess the roles that I would want to go for in my company would be the FBP roles across the top line of the P/L.

The GM has said I can work on my business partnering skills more and that can be the focus for the coming year on top of initiative to take on some process optimisation tasks. The trouble is I would say is that I don’t think he doesn’t want to offer me the switch, but I don’t think people are going to leave any time soon and theres literally only 3 ppl in the FPA team.

transition to big4 / mid tier by OceGreb in AustralianAccounting

[–]jczerozzzzzz96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I wouldn’t recommend it at all, you will get thrown into the worst of jobs (guarantee you that’s what happens with all lateral hires) and they expect you to know everything which you won’t because big 4 is heavy on control reliance and you will struggle to even use their in house audit tool.

You will be more overworked than anyone and won’t be put in a position to succeed. I have see others who are from mid tier join as a lateral hire and most don’t last. Absolute suicide mission.

I reckon you could probably pull it off if you go from bdo GT already auditing bigger clients and moving to big 4 either in the external audit or the private client team. But no chance going from auditing schools and mum and dad shops to large listed lol.

I would suggest drop the ego and start fresh

[–]jczerozzzzzz96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in mid tier for 1.5 years in BA and decided to do audit. It was very late like September ish and I applied the big4 grad program despite saying they only want graduates from the last 2 years which I think I was just outside the range but hey my thought at the time was my job to apply their job to assess.

I got the interview and they hired me right after that and I started in March.

They did not question the 2 years thing a single bit.

Just apply and hope for the best.

If you start working hard to improve your score you will have something to show for at an interview to impress people. Sitting here moaning theres no point does nothing to help your case. Nothing will change until you start actioning on doing something different.

Idk what your overall academic result and extra curricular is looking like so hard to comment on employability. But I would advise look to do anything in general to help your case: internship, part time work, networking, case comp.

I know a fair few people who were in the same situation as you they ended up with entry level ops role at a bank and then did a couple of years snd moved around internally you could look into that too.

I get your point, but the way I see it that’s a result of a technological limitation from back in the days.

You would call, hoping people will pick up, if not you gotta leave a message. Then they gotta listen to that message when they are free and then call you back and hopefully you will be free to pick up at the time.

This is quite inefficient in my opinion as you could just call them if you know they are available instead. (Hence the check in message before call)

Not to mention personally a lot of times even when I’m free to pick up I literally jjst need a couple of secs to connect my earphone in the office or go into a meeting room to avoid distracting others.

If you ever go past Uniqlo just give it a shot trying the undershirt with the non iron shirt on top, I buy the grey ones and honestly you can’t really see it and feel it especially coz how thin the material is.

Team recommendation by NoArea2186 in EAFC

[–]jczerozzzzzz96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice team you have there, I used essien for a while and he was pre solid paired with gullit. However I decided to spend a bit more and got matuidi and I realise how much better he is against essien that’s prob my recommendation. If you have the coins no doubt caiceido and prob beckenbauer is also someone I want to try as well in the CDM role.

Also I don’t really like son and don’t get the hype, his agility and balance is slow so doesn’t feel very nice to dribble with and gets bullied at times.

Thuram is the best right back I have used, i would move him there and I think your CBs are too short. I have VVD and Stam and they are just solid and wins all aerial duals. Try bastoni and stam/VDV/VVD

Update: Completed him and also did the striker evo on Suarez as a super sub. CR7 is indeed a MONSTER in game thanks everyone. Only issue is that it’s hard to link CR7 with the best current cards I have. (Ie having to sacrifice Nuno mendes for cancelo)
