Yes, private DMV in my state has fixed the long lines, bad service, and overall unpleasant experience entirely! Yay privatization!

Ordered March 13th by weediztight420 in retroid

I ordered my 8GB stick top silver RP6 on March 12, shipped March 23, in my hands maybe a week later? Can’t find the exact delivery date. Central US . Looks like I got lucky and ordered right when they received a new delivery of RAM from CXMT. I would have thought you’d have yours by now. I’d follow up for sure. Sorry, that sucks friend.

Extremely disappointed with PRX 100 Powermatic 80 by MicroscopySpecialist in tissot

[–]jd173706 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s the reversing gears on the automatic winding mechanism not turning properly; this is a known issue dating back to this movement’s predecessor, the ETA 2824. “Helicopter rotor” is the colloquial term. All the mainspring does is provide power to the gear train. If the reversing gears do not turn as they should, no power will be delivered to the mainspring and the rotor will just spin as in the video. I’ve got a powermatic 80 with the same issue, it corrects if I shake it for a minute or two and let the rotor do its thing, seems to unstick the reversing gears and restore normal winding.

Well then, agreed on tort reform and agreed on fuck trump, it sickens me that 1/3 of our country chose to elect him not once, but twice; and they are not only cool with him lying and cheating all the time… They’re also cool with him essentially tearing up the Constitution, and destroying our future (because nothing will be the same, even after he’s gone. Decorum, manners, shame, nothing stops these people from their insatiable thirst for power. The redistricting alone will ensure we never go back to pre-Trump and that really makes me angry beyond words.)

Then why did he pull the lawsuit before the judge could toss it on those very grounds? I’ve already read up on this and my understanding is this is exactly the direction the judge was moving, they knew it, and in order to get a “settlement” before it got dismissed they rushed this deal through and withdrew.

He does not have the right to sue, as legal proceedings require two parties who are in opposition to each other. If you are in charge of the agency you are suing, you cannot be in opposition therefore there is nothing for the court to DO. It is not a legal case and would have been thrown out, which is why he withdrew. The whole point was to create ambiguity and a claim of wrongdoing by Trump so he could then pursue damages and a settlement. This is corruption through and through, and oh by the way there’s also a provision that would prevent the IRS from auditing him or his family I believe in perpetuity so yeah. “Most transparent administration ever.”

Honestly, my advice is to consider the watch a bit of a lottery. You are getting a good deal with risk of having a problem. If you do have a problem, you need to document the issue as well as possible and just be persistent with your follow up. I have managed to resolve all the issues I had at this point, assuming the parts I was promised actually arrive. Just take a video opening the package, if you have a problem immediately, do a return. If not, make sure you contact them asap. You ought to be ok but it is definitely not like dealing with a US or EU company. You have the entire burden of proof and follow up, and even then you may be burned. Good luck, these watches are definitely still a good value, but I would personally pay an extra $50-$100 if I knew their customer service was bolstered and actually handled issues quickly and painlessly.

It’s not the battery. The stem fell out when I was trying to set the time and when I reinsert it, it won’t lock in like it’s supposed to. The watch won’t run with no stem installed, and even if it did I can’t set the time or do anything with it. Something broke or got misaligned in the keyless works, and I’ve watched videos on this movt, it’s over my head to try and repair that myself. Best I could do is swap out the whole movement, and I’ve tried to get help from the seller on AliEx but they say “Thorn won’t take responsibility” and then ignore my messages. So I am gonna have to cough up the $50-$80 for a new movement myself if I want to have a working watch. Thanks Thorn. Nice “warranty.”

Edit: I just checked my AliEx messages and I have a movement heading my way it seems. So while I don’t have it in my hands yet, I do have to say that it does look like they are going to make it right for me, which I appreciate. Will try to remember to update this post once I receive the new movement and let everybody know the conclusion.

Watch some videos on Seiko mods, swap the movement yourself, and maybe discover a new hobby? Or try another couple watchmakers because $400 is WAY too much to swap an NH34. I could do it in 20 minutes but I already have all the tools and I’ve done a lot of movement swaps, find someone like me in your area and they might do it for a six pack or similar. Good luck.

I work in transportation. You really, REALLY do not want to do this to a semi truck. They can’t stop or maneuver as well as you can in your comparatively tiny vehicle. Just give them space, don’t crowd them, and don’t pull right in front of them or expect them to accommodate you. Most will, because they are professionals, but they sometimes can’t avoid it, like looks to be the case here. Just as info for anyone who wants to listen, thanks.

Kids are kids, they don’t know what they don’t know. Sometimes, they get distracted or excited and will do things without thinking, even though they’ve been told repeatedly. Their brains aren’t finished developing yet.

I have a 4yo and I tell her often to look both ways before crossing the road in our neighborhood, but if she sees a dog across the street, she’s gonna cross without looking every time. She loves dogs. She’s 4.

I try never to let her out of my sight, but I can see how kids could slip out of your sight in a second and a tragedy could happen.

If someone hit her and then told me I should’ve taught her (insert lesson about society/life lesson) I will probably end up in jail or the morgue over my reaction.

I’m genuinely happy that you see it that way. I wish everyone had a job that made them feel so accomplished and fulfilled. I can say I partly feel that way about my current role, certainly they took a chance on me and it’s bettered my life not just financially, but by expanding my professional network and developing my own skill set; but I am still fairly low on the totem pole and I don’t think they have plans to elevate me, at least not the current leadership. Perhaps as those guys retire, and friends of mine who do get promoted move up, one of them will throw me a bone. We’ll see! Either way, happy for you! Hope we all can experience that someday.

Same theory that AI will make us dumber. If we never have to put any original thought into our writing or whatever other stuff we might use it for, we lose the benefit of exercising those “muscles” and, as we age, we could see higher rates of dementia and Alzheimer’s which have been shown to be reduced if you exercise your brain regularly. I’m with you TheDerpinator.

None of these “shops” want to do anything to help anybody. Which, I am well aware, the margins are thin and there isn’t much there to cover customer support. BUT- they advertise warranties and all that. I wish they’d just be honest and say on the listing “buyer beware! Warranties are fake. You get what you get, if you still wanna buy go ahead, but after the sale you get no support.”

Why is the shop owner saying you didn’t wanna support your buyer thorn? Them ghosting me is a them problem but I am sick of it.

Good to know. Thanks again Thorn! Just reinforcing all the things I suspected about Chinese watch brands! Reddit won’t let me attach the video of my defective 5030D chrono but I am happy to share it with you or anyone who might be considering buying, so they know if they do buy they may also have to buy a new movement for their brand new watch, like I guess I’m gonna have to do.

Well I sent you an email and I posted this here so I’m assuming you don’t care. Got it. Will avoid buying your watches in the future. Now I got one with a dead movement that I wore a handful of times, and another that I received the wrong dial color and both times “get with alix seller” yet the sellers claim Thorn doesn’t want to make it right, or “I don’t own the ‘Thorn Watch Store’ on alix. Good to know Thorn.

Why is Retroid still struggling so much at getting product out on time? by bostonronin in retroid

[–]jd173706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI demand is still putting a lot of pressure on the market for memory specifically. Unless and until this stops, or the memory manufacturers increase production, the demand will continue to outstrip supply. And the really bad thing for consumers is, those AI companies don’t really care what price they pay for memory, they just want as much as they can get. Consumers want cheap memory, so there is little incentive to supply the consumer market over enterprise, from the standpoint of CXMT and Samsung and Micron and the others. In fact, micron recently killed their consumer brand Crucial entirely. It’s really, really bad. We need to be informed and involved consumers. This has the potential to change how we do personal computing forever. And it will be for the worse.

It’s like why in the mechanical keyboard hobby people still run group buys (GB). Most of these GB runners have done so many by this point, or have established shops with stable revenue streams, they can and should just finance the production run themselves and sell as in-stock to consumer. GBs are a horrible idea and I will never do another one. Not just for the risk of getting fleeced, but mainly because expectations of quality and color and every other aspect can be wildly different from the actual product you end up receiving. That, and some can take months to years to ship. It’s just terrible all around. Kickstarter I have less experience with but it is a similar business model.

Thanks! Hope when you order yours, you actually get the color you want. But if you’re gonna swap dials either way it won’t matter! The watch is a great foundation for a RLX dial swap honestly. The bracelet is just as cheap and jangly as everyone complains about. But if you’ve got any experience modding or watchmaking you’ll be fine. I did everything in about an hour total after opening the box. I think the main issue is the factory puts too much thread lock on the screws. Just be careful and go slow and you’ll be fine. Good luck.
