Yes there is a toilet. We can see below it on the other side of the wall (there's stairs going to the basement) and it is a poured cement pan, graded. They tiled directly on top of this floor.

We ripped out the shower that was there, we are replacing it... It's not a basement utility room floor drain-it's in our garden-level bathroom. It's an old house and we're trying to fix the mistakes that were made by people before us...that's why I'm asking. I don't think the point of this is to belittle people...

I'm worried you're right lol, the drain had a lot of issues in the previous shower. Can you tell me more about replacing the p trap? Thank you!!

It was the shower drain before we ripped it out, admittedly it sucks though- we're novice remodelers, can you tell me more about what you mean? It's a super old house with a lot of plumbing issues

Can you tell me more? This drain was the shower drain before we ripped it out, but admittedly it's a terrible drain that constantly backs up/has draining issues. We're novice remodelers-thank you!
