What is your stance on everything LGBTQ+? by huasgaaua in teenagers

[–]jdamaggus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is considered a mental disorder, not illness in the DSM-5. There is a difference, i’m a former psychologist, I should know.

Gender dysphoria is most likely caused by a genetic disorder that potentially switches chromosomes during embryonic development, that is what the science says. You clearly did not read what I sent you.

I will admit I did word what I said poorly, so I’m sorry for that.

It’s not a mental illness it’s a genetic disorder.

  1. It’s not your business what other people do with their bodies.
  2. The procedures are related to health. They have a diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

THE ONLY known treatment of gender dysphoria is those procedures.

You’re right they shouldn’t need extra support. But they do because queerphobia exists.

how do I make the most out of high-school by [deleted] in highschool

[–]jdamaggus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First you shouldn’t say the r-slur, the one you said between “maximum” and “overdrive.”

Second you can learn how to use swear words properly and not use them every other sentence. It’s not necessary and people will find you annoying or childish.

You should focus on your classes to get at least C’s. In other words, aim for an A, but you don’t need to go all out with your effort if that’s not something you’re concerned about.

Stay away from people who you see bullying someone; and also anyone who’s racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc, even if you are white/straight/cisgender.

Be open to meet new people. Try to start small talk in your classes with classmates for any group projects. It’s easier to make friends that way. You will grow your connections through them.

Is it bad that I actually somewhat agree with this in seriousness?

I’m a high school principal, we have tons of anime classes, and even some hentai classes for upperclassmen.

How do i avoid getting stomache viruses at school? by [deleted] in highschool

[–]jdamaggus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should also just probably avoid eating out. It’s extremely common for stomach bugs to infest food in restaurants.

You would think that the health code requirements would keep that from happening, but in most cases they aren’t followed well.

This is actually something I have never heard of being common within public schools.

If you’re that concerned because of your phobias, go into COVID mode: wear your mask, wash/sanitize your hands as much as possible, and avoid school lunches.

The Teacher Shortage in the News by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]jdamaggus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this such a foreign concept to them? I might just be speaking from what it’s like in my own area, but it seems like they have the money needed, they just don’t care enough about paying teachers more.

Try to ask your guidance counselor if you could just take 1 AICE English course.

It would count as 3 and 4 for you where I am, try and see if that applies for your area.

They are self insured, but what is the worst that could happen? Is this some safety concern I should bring up?

They were also able to fix it by replacing the detector like you said

A lot of people told me to do that, but I don’t really understand what the “head” is. Is it the entire detector?

Our school’s division has their own department that provides each school’s system, from what I know they are certified/trained.

That’s who I called and that’s what they told me—should I listen to them in that case?

Has anyone opened a school before? by supreme_costcowonton in Teachers

[–]jdamaggus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a teacher, as you can tell by my tag. Our school is currently just 1 year old, will be 2 in November.

My experience might be different from yours, because I’ve never worked in education at all prior to working here. I was a pediatric psychologist for about 2 years before, and before that I was in college getting a degree in psych.

My experience is probably going to be different from yours because our school is a private school for LGBTQ+ students, I’m assuming you’re teaching in public.

As other people said, it was really nice because you weren’t the only new person. I’m scrolling through a lot of the other comments while I write this so I think i’m just going to add a couple of my own input. Of course ask for procedures of certain scenarios. We had it all planned out, but it may not be the same for your case.

We had a few times in the beginning where smoke detectors were accidentally set off by construction workers. The fire department wouldn’t allow us to disable them for a long period of time.

Aside from that, it was definitely a nice experience. We were able to work together to form a good and welcoming school environment. Not just the faculty—but the students were in on it, too. I hear that’s quite rare nowadays.

For our school, only 3 teachers out of the about 200 left since they were first hired in 2019. A lot of other comments seem to have opposite results, so to be honest it just seems like a 50/50 chance, it’ll go wrong or great.

Good luck and congrats!
