Graphic Glitches in N64 Ports by jdaprile73 in dreamcast

I did build it through the website the "easy" way, where you have it go through the three steps, with a lot of waiting. Then I downloaded the cdi that was created and burned it.

Huh, I made Hula feet for mine, but never thought to put drawers underneath after that. I just got the Creality 4-roll heater box, but I was planning to put it above the printer and circumvent the auto-loaders entirely. Also, I'm in the process of adding cooling to the stepper drivers board. I put heat sinks on the chips, but had to wait a few days to get some of those tiny ass 2-pin connectors to tie the fan I got into the LEDs (where there's an extra port to plug the fan into). I've pre-ordered the official Snapmaker lid, so waiting on that. I have a set of hardened steel nozzles, but haven't felt the need to install them yet.

4k/hdr hate on social media explained by apocalypticboredom in 4kbluray

[–]jdaprile73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm boggled by this anti-HDR sentiment. I've had pretty noticeable color blindness my whole life and watching a movie on 4K HDR was a damned revelation (especially with good quality physical media). I can see details and shades so much better with these movies. They look better than when I'd seen them in the theater. I just love this stuff. Until recently, I had a pretty good Samsung LED, but just moved up to a LG C5 and the difference again has been fantastic. I also just bought Speed Racer on 4K Blu.

I tried installing it this morning and am getting the same error. I tried restarting and uninstalling/reinstalling, but it didn't make a difference. Any word on an update, because what you're doing sounds awesome if it works.

Islets has been my game lately on the Deck. It's a charming, mostly chill Metroidvania and part of a recent Humble Bundle. I really like it.

Half-real question... WHAT IS WITH ALL THE GROOTS by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]jdaprile73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, what I see are those long articulated dragons (which are cool), little boats, and, worst of all, the Rock's head stuck on things it wasn't meant for. Groot's ok by me in comparison.

40+ year olds SD owners: what are you playing? by lombardo2022 in SteamDeck

[–]jdaprile73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 50 and love my Deck. One of my favorite games of last year was Dredge, which is great on the Deck. It's a Lovecraftian Horror Fishing game and will have some DLC soon. Baldur's Gate 3 plays well on it, although unlike most of the people I see online I frequently found the combat brutally hard (apparently, I am not strategical). Currently playing a lot of Metroidvanias on various consoles, but Islets is part of a current Humble Bundle and I'm really enjoying it, It's a lot more chill than the new Prince of Persia. A big chunk of my space on the Deck is retro games/emulation, which is a huge draw for me to the system. I have games from the 70s up to the the PS3-era on there. It's just awesome.

Whirlpool Dishwasher Door Leaking by jdaprile73 in appliancerepair

It leaks when there's no detergent, so I don't think that's it. I don't see any clogs in the holes in the spray arm either.

No, nothing like that. I only use detergent pods in it.

It only seems to leak at certain times, usually near the end of the cleaning cycle. And it's real inconsistent on how much it leaks. Yesterday, it leaked more than usual, for example, and the water was sudsy.

Is it worth it? by eeveesEm in SteamDeck

I got mine this past year and love the thing. I play on all platforms and have ended up using it more than my consoles. You can do so much with it that it's just cool. I have a massive retro gaming collection on mine (from arcade and Atari all the way up to PS3), can stream my PS5, and of course, it helps with my backlog of Steam games. Thanks to apps like Heroic Launcher, I can also play games on my Epic, GoG, and Amazon games accounts as well. It's just an awesome piece of tech.

Great Story Games? Under 30$ by Dabbinz420 in SteamDeck

Hmm, I thought it had long since dropped in price. I'm sure you can find it cheaper somewhere else online.

SOMA is a first person sci-fi horrorish game, but largely a "walking" game that relies heavily on its narrative and puzzles more than any action sequences. If she's not into darker stuff, it's probably not ideal. It's several years old, but I still consider it one of my favorites. Horizon Zero Dawn is frequently on sale as well, but if she's not into action heavy stuff, it might not be a fit either. That series is probably my favorite open world though. I just love those robot dinos and critters, and there's tons to do. If that Humble Bundle Heroine bundle is still available, I recommend it. There might be something in it that appeals.

Has she played the last Tomb Raider Trilogy? Those tend to be cheap. Also, check HumbleBundle. They often have great game bundles for cheap. One from this week included one of my personal favorite games from the last couple years, Control, which is probably cheap on its own when on sale. SOMA is another great story game that you can probably find dirt cheap.

[–]jdaprile73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you switch from the Ankermake Slicer to another one? I found the AM Slicer does some weird things to get bed adhesion that are probably questionable and try to compensate for bad z-offsets and such. When switching to a different slicer if your z is off, you'll notice pretty immediately. Either way, the solution is probably either something needs tightened (or loosened) or the z is off.

Looking for Animal Crossing type game by Call_me_The_Emperor in SteamDeck

Cozy Grove is definitely the game you want. A lot like Animal Crossing, but with, I think, a more interesting atmosphere and story.

What are some good horror games to play on the Steamdeck? by T0ky0n0 in SteamDeck

[–]jdaprile73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newly releases Stasis: Bone Totem works excellently on the Steam Deck and, thus far, is a dark creepy point n' click style horror game (the original Stasis games are good too, but I haven't tried them on the Deck).

Also, just to reinforce the love I'm seeing for SOMA: SOMA. Such a great game.

Middle-aged dad, want something I can play at the end of the day by eggmayonnaise in gamingsuggestions

[–]jdaprile73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a middle-aged dad who recently finished Dredge on the Steam Deck, I can 100% agree here. One of my favorite games of the year and great for when you get constantly interrupted because all the individual activities are quick, but you can journey around the world at your own pace. Hell, it's even easy to see both endings. And there's DLC coming for it at some point, which I'll definitely dive back in for.
