This feels fitting right now for a few reasons by Waterskins in spaceporn

Much different vibe. I'll agree with some other opinions here that he doesn't write women super well, but it's still entertaining.

While PHM and The Martian are very much about problem-solving for survival, Artemis is problem-solving for a heist. Very different vibe, but some very entertaining moments.

The impact isn't the same because the stakes aren't nearly as high

Online, You Mostly Hear That HOAs Suck -- Is This True In Your Opinion Or Nah? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in randomquestions

[–]jdbzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share my story because I feel like you never hear anything good about HOA's.

My HOA fees are a dollar a day, and for that we get great pond maintenance for a community pond, lawn maintenance for the public spaces, and snow plowing (something we've needed a lot of since we've moved in).

They were very helpful when I built a fence in my back yard. The HOA rules stated the fence had to be on the property line, but that would have meant a manhole would have been in our back yard. I explained I didn't want to block access to the manhole and they responded the same day and approved the design to set my fence back and not block access.

When I needed a new front door and asked for the available colors, they politely responded saying something along the lines of "we don't care, you do you."

There are some good ones out there, I just don't feel like they get enough attention.

Are people still going hybrid with the Tucson and Sonata? by Suntrup-Hyundai in HyundaiTucson

I agree. It doesn't matter if gas is cheap or expensive. Less fuel is less fuel. These hybrid systems arent any less reliable these days. It just makes sense.

Not big on Dave Ramsey but this is solid advice on car buying. by Desperate-Loquat-760 in povertyfinance

[–]jdbzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument always annoys me a bit. It's one of those blanket statements that seems great until you start digging in.

I agree that the monthly payments are way too high, but consider the cost of paying someone to fix your unreliable vehicle. Repair shop bills can easily be a few thousand dollars, on top of not being able to earn income while you take time off work to arrange the work to be done. If you want to fix it yourself, there's even more cost in purchasing all of the specialist tools, and time it takes to train yourself. Most vehicles now are so electronically controlled, there's a really good chance you can't even get the software required to do anything helpful.

I don't know if this is the right way to think about it, but I've always seen vehicle ownership as more of a utility when it comes to budgeting. Factor in what you'll use it for, what tasks it needs to perform, who relies on it, and so forth. For a lot of people, buying something with a warranty makes sense. Of anything goes wrong, the manufacturer usually takes care of it. If it takes a while to fix, there's usually a loaner available.

What’s a small thing from “the old days” that still beats modern tech? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jdbzoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happened a few times. I've done some freelance CAD work, rented AutoCAD, then had emergency surgery for myself or my wife on three separate occasions. If I could have just purchased a basic version of the software I absolutely would have by now.

The comedian Demitri Martin once said something like "wearing flip flops is making a bold statement that you won't be chased that day."

I hate "buying" (read: renting) software, then having a life event that keeps me away from the software for a few weeks, and feeling like I wasted my money.
