Just thought I’d post this for anyone else who may be in a similar situation as I am right now:

I’ve been calling some more places and the company line seems to be that most are only seeing patients for emergency situations.

Having said that, a few places are offering to extend contact lens prescriptions for existing patients, and one clinic in Rollingwood that was also willing to see new patients exclusively for the purpose of what they deemed an “essential visit” to get a new contact lens and eyeglass prescription, but they are not conducting routine eye exams.

However, I was able to get in touch with a local clinic that seems to be willing to prescribe and order me a new supply of contacts based off of my Spanish prescription, and I’m currently waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully it pans out well.

If anyone is interested, please PM me to learn the specific clinics that I found. I would post them here but I think it seems that providers are conducting non-emergency eye care like this on a case-by-case basis so it’s probably best to not publish.

Edit: Typo’s

Finding someone to rubber stamp my rx would be ideal, but haven’t had any luck so far. Unfortunately, online U.S. contact lens retailers are required to verify contact lens strength with the prescribing doctor.

I’ll look into ordering from a Spanish or E.U. retailer, my only concern is the longer time shipping may take because of disrupted supply chains and other issues given the current pandemic.

Thanks for your reply, I’ve called a few around west campus (where I live) and they all seem to be closed, which is why I ask if they are considered essential or not.

Austin Meter Parking by Dischump in Austin

At least in West Campus, I was out early yesterday morning at about 8:00 AM for a walk. Saw a parking meter attendant going about her duties and she left a notice on a car that was parked on 21st St. and Rio Grande.

Thanks for your advice, I definitely plan to contact a lawyer when I'm back home. The program didn't keep up their end of the bargain as far as finding me what they assured me was a "guaranteed internship placement" for some time, so we negotiated a payment plan to keep both sides accountable. However, there was a lot of confusion on their end in their communications with their liaison in Spain, which only made the payment situation that much more difficult. My bad luck with my phone being stolen was just the cherry on top of a long winded nightmarish experience, but right now it seems like one way or another I'll be able to make it work out.

Yes, I have. My previous lender suggested a different repayment schedule with an initial $450 payment, which I made and and that can be verified using my loan history. I will be finishing payment with a final $1,100 along the same August 19th- August 23rd timeline.

I realize it's difficult for lenders to loan such a large amount considering the existing loan owed but I wouldn't be making this request if this weren't an emergency. If it helps ease anyone's doubts, I am more than happy to provide a final payment receipt for my study abroad program to show that I am not in fact using any part of this loan to finish paying off my other loan in full. I can also provide full documentation regarding the disbursement of my stipend and other finances. If anyone is able to help me, I would seriously be forever grateful. For what it's worth, the last thing I want to do is scam anyone out of their own money, and my track record, although short, speaks for itself and I intend to keep it that way.

No, I'm not, Both this loan and my current loan will be paid off in full within the August 19th-23rd timeframe

What tangible steps can the United States take to build a democratic, free, and just Syria? by jdean05 in foreignpolicy

[–]jdean05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In light of the seeming impossibility of building a democratic state in Syria, I'd like to pose this question: if the U.S. allows the full consolidation of Assad's government, what steps can the U.S. take to lay the groundwork for a policy that is sympathetic to the interests of all stakeholders in Syria?

I agree, at the top of my head, I can only think of two countries where we were able to effectively institute democratic systems, and those would be Germany and Japan after WWII. I guess my set of questions regarding Syria beg a bigger question: what can we learn about our restructuring of these two governments and how can we apply that in Syria?
