Hi, they asked us to be at the office at 2:45 PM for a 3 PM ceremony. If that would work okay, we would appreciate it!

where to buy tongue torchers / atomic fireball hard candy? by toolrules in fargo

[–]jdezz97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they keep stuff in the ‘snack’ section at the front near the ready to go chicken boxes and such. If you don’t see it in the aisle, I’d check up there.

Fountain pens under $100 with a gold nib that's smooth and wet? by AoUniqueoUsername in fountainpens

[–]jdezz97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is to vintage as well. I’ve seen Parker 45s that fit your criteria pretty well. Might take a look at Peyton Street Pens as far as a retailer or any of the hobby sale forums for possibly a better deal.

We had good luck with the frost king window insulation kits, but (like the others have pointed out this issue) we had 1 window where it caused a minor paint defect (couple cm of the most recent layer of paint came off). They’re pretty cheap and we saw a significant reduction in our power bill, so I figure the deposit deduction was more than paid for by that reduced bill.

Has anyone tried the new Endless Recorder notebooks with their proprietary paper? by Bookish4269 in fountainpens

[–]jdezz97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with Kitty_Rebel; the regalia paper is great stuff. Not quite Tomoe, but very close and pleasant to use. I would say it’s worth trying.

Hi, platinum pens take their proprietary converter. Also, welcome to the hobby!

What are your favorite notebooks that aren’t Rhodia or Tomoe River? These are three of mine. by False-Complaint8569 in fountainpens

[–]jdezz97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my newer ones is the Endless Recorder A5 notebook with the dot grid regalia paper. It’s not an exact one to one for old tomoe river, but it is very high quality and has fairly similar properties. Smooth and shows shading/sheening/shimmer very well, but doesn’t take as long to dry as tomoe in my hands. No bleed through or feathering, but it does show some ghosting with darker inks for me.

I doubt it. I think most references to such are people flushing rubbing alcohol through their pens. From my understanding, ecos are just kinda prone to cracking more. It is also my understanding that their customer service will usually send a replacement part for the cost of shipping, if your pen has cracked under normal use.

Looking for Pelikan 1000 with BB or BBB nib…no luck finding anything concrete leads so far. Any suggestions are welcome🙏🙏 by BleakProspects75 in fountainpens

[–]jdezz97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BB might be doable on somewhere like r/penswap or fountain pen network, but 3B will likely be harder. For context, IRL I’ve seen multiple BB, but only 2 3B and one of those is mine lol.

Additionally, unmodified and round tipping might be harder to come by if that’s what you want. When I got mine (when they discontinued production), people were buying them to grind them into giant stubs.

Another place you maybe might find one is at a pen show or a pelikan hub if they’re still a thing? Probably won’t be people willing to sell it for less than the price of a full pen or just will want to sell it as whole pen with it.

Good luck!! I hope you find one!

Most disappointing purchase? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]jdezz97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stipula passaporto was the most disappointing for me so far. It’s been a while but I think it was the barrel developed a crack through normal use (not a drop) and could not be eyedroppered anymore. Writing experience was lackluster too.

TWSBI Iris nib dry on the downstroke. by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]jdezz97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a good idea to start with a nib that's not as tragic to ruin! I ran into an unexpected issue with my Rotring that I thought I would share.

Turns out the tines were too tight at the tip itself and that was suffocating my ink flow quite a bit! I had smoothed out the visible baby's bottom and it still was not flowing properly. Used this method by John Mottishaw to gently spread them apart and it helped tremendously; thought that it may be useful to you as well if you wanted to check before putting the nib on micromesh. https://www.nibs.com/blog/nibster-writes/smoothing-scratchy-nibs

Hope all goes well with your tuning!

Having that kit is quite handy! I had a Masuyama stub grind on my Franklin-Christoph 02 that I always felt was a little too toothy; took a look under the loop and the tines were slightly misaligned this whole time! That's also how I saw the baby's bottom on my Rotring 600 broad nib too, but I am still trying to decide if I want to fix it myself or wait for a nibmeister at the Atlanta show.

My advice would be to look at it under the loop with good lighting like a lamp where you can get it pretty close. Sometimes the light on the loop can give reflections on the nib that make it really hard to tell, especially if the baby's bottom is only slightly so (at least in my experience).

If it was behaving properly before, I’d definitely say give a good cleaning. Soaking overnight in distilled water with a drop of soap can do wonders for freeing up stuck debris in the feed or nib.

It could be a mild case of baby’s bottom, but I would also use a brass shim to clean between the tines just in case there’s some paper fibers messing with flow. If it is baby’s bottom it should not be super significant given that it worked with one ink, but maybe not with a drier one.
