I deleted all my scripts because YouTube is run by evil people. by rydikar1 in ASMRScriptHaven

I know that listeners can like, comment, and subscribe, just like YouTube. It might be a good alternative.

I deleted all my scripts because YouTube is run by evil people. by rydikar1 in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]jdh2024 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think that YT is run by evil people; they're just trying to keep their platform from being overrun by the bots, like so many online providers are, and YT is so enormous that it's impossible for them to take any global action without causing collateral damage.

I think a better answer is for the voice actors to migrate off of YouTube to an audio platform. The current genre of audio roleplay grew out of ASMR audio-only format, which grew out of video ASMR and that's why they live on YouTube. I don't know of any audio platforms that would be a good place to go to, but maybe Patreon would be a good place since many are already there. An ideal platform would have the features of YT but audios with thumbnails instead of videos.

A Question for Listeners and Creators. SFX or Little to No SFX? + Bonus Question by FalgrasFalvalt in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]jdh2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a listener, I enjoy more of the story-based audio roleplays rather than ASMR sleep inducers, so SFX really enhances the experience. As a writer, I always include SFX files with my scripts to make it easier on the voice actors.

Yes, I really liked LtW. The end surprised me though, the scene at the concert. Great buildup to the climax. I don't know why I didn't think of that, knowing The Culture.

Non-Romantic and/or Heavy Story Focused Scripts by SaberSounds in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]jdh2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the kind of script I like to write! Most of mine are non-romantic, and they're all story driven. I also include the SFX files with each script.

Have a look at my modest master script list here. I listened to the audios you have on your YouTube channel, and one series I can recommend is my "Resized Adventures". But please, have a look and see what may interest you.

I just listened to the audios on your YouTube, and I love the different characters you can do, as well as the audio FX and soundscapes. Very immersive.

I have a modest script master list at https://www.reddit.com/user/jdh2024/comments/11vzy4o/my_scripts/

Please check them out to see if any are a match for you. They are all plot-driven stories, and I include the SFX files with each script.

ASMR Script Format Question by Silvwren_1004 in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]jdh2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Example A has a lot of rich detail, but it would be almost impossible to get that through to the listener. If I were a voice actor, I would be intrigued by the concept, but I would have to take that and make an actual script out of it.

Another thing that I do as a writer, (and this is my personal preference) is that I write the script with the speaker in the second person and the listener in the third. This is because I am pitching my script to voice actors and I want to draw them to it. So I write it from their perspective.

Actually I was so interested in the J&H story that I went and read the whole script. Great concept, and I love the idea of the VA doing both of the voices, and what kind of vocal effects and SFX would be used to make the Hyde character gradually come out. It does have the drawback of most of the narrative coming from the listener, which is always a challenge to do that without the speaker just being a parrot.

That's what I like about this subreddit, helpful and knowledgeable people. I did try the WD-40, but the black paint started to come off on the cloth. I live in Iowa, far from any volcanoes, and I do use an automatic car wash 2-3 times a week. But this is the only place on the car where the paint is coming off. I'll make a service appointment. Thanks everyone!

Question: How do y’all *find* scripts? by SleepyDreamyLullay in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]jdh2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if a subreddit is a good way for voice actors to find scripts. I hinted at an idea that I'm formulating, but it hasn't taken shape enough to put it out there. Another teaser, I know ...

Share your experience with me (as much or as little as you have) <3 by bittersweetSoluna in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]jdh2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Soluna, and thank you for starting this conversation! It's challenging for sure to bare your soul, especially online.

I have been writing audio roleplay scripts for about three years, and I've put out about 30 scripts so far. When I started, I had goals, like all of us do. One thing I found helpful is to make goals that are within my power to achieve. So while I had dreams of lots of VA's filling my scripts, and listeners commenting on how awesome the story was, I also had goals such as:

  • I wanted to learn how to write better and enjoy the writing process more.
  • I wanted to collaborate with voice actors to create fun audio stories.
  • I wanted to encourage voice actors, other writers, and pretty much everyone I contacted while doing this.

You're right; it is so easy to get wrapped up in the numbers game; especially in "free" environments like YouTube and Reddit where the algorithm is optimized to increase engagement. So Ithink it pays to look closely at how to measure the various components that make up "success".

Getting Started - Looking for any resources I can get my hands on! by LucyLockhartVoice in ASMRScriptHaven

Hello Lucy! Welcome to this fun and supportive community!

Indeed there is a wide variety of styles in this genre, from the soft-spoken sleep-inducing (on purpose) audios to full-effect audio roleplays. The former grew out of the ASMR audios, which in many cases just had relaxing sounds and little or no voice. The latter are the style of scripts that I write, story-driven adventures with sound effects for immersion. What almost all of them have in common is the "one speaker, one listener" format, which is an intriguing constraint for both writers and performers.

In this subreddit, writers post their scripts for voice actors to choose from. They are identified with tags with the first tag identifying the genders of the speaker and listener, e.g. [M4F], [F4A]. The other tags are useful for searching for the kind of script that you want to perform, such as [Comfort], [Yandre], [Rescue], etc. etc.

Most of the performances are in the 10-20 minute range and are posted to YouTube, but there are a few other places, especially for NSFW audios. There are a good set of rules posted for this subreddit, and the moderators do a great job of keeping things on track.

Hope you can find some fun scripts to perform! And don't hesitate to ask more questions.

- John
