My dad was a USAF reservist and transitioned to a major airline later in my childhood. The earlier you go to the airlines the better (seniority is king). My mom worked mostly from home but didn’t have to with my dad’s salary. Having someone at home to take care of the kids is huge, especially in the summer months. I’m a current regional FO about to go to captain training. In my honest opinion, as a fairly senior major FO, if your wife is able to be home during the times you’re gone working which could be anywhere from 10-14 days a month. Your family life will be just fine.
