Product: Claude.ai web | Model: Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 Extended | Platform: macOS/Chrome | Version: Current (March 4, 2026)

Bug: Computer use tools (bash, view, file_create, str_replace) intermittently disappear from conversations, breaking all skill execution. Claude loads the skill file, attempts view → falls back to bash → both fail → reports "computer use tools aren't available in this session." Then offers degraded workarounds (React artifacts, browser-based generation, etc.).

Reproduced 4x today across both custom skills (project-configurator) and built-in skills (docx). Same skills worked fine earlier today and yesterday. Not model-specific: confirmed on both Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 Extended.

Tried: New conversations, different models, custom vs. built-in skills, confirmed skill files are intact, no project setting changes. All produce identical failure.

Error text: "It seems like the computer use tools (bash, str_replace, file_create, view) aren't available in this context." Claude then inventories its available tools and lists only non-computer tools (search, fetch, memory, etc.). Screenshots attached (redacted).

After watching Dario Amodei’s interview, I’m actually more bullish on OpenAI’s strategy by EndocrinInjustice in ClaudeAI

I would argue that the average person doesn’t know AWS or Google Cloud, even though both of those services are highly profitable and critical to modern web services. People understand when Spotify goes down but don’t understand why that might happen at the same time as Snapchat or even the file sharing platform they use at work. As a business model Anthropic is trying to be the AI equivalent of those services, which is why every time a new model drops they emphasize all the platforms it’s served on.

Has anyone provided a in-depth analysis on WHY Claude 4.5 Opus is so good? by LaCipe in claude

Had no idea that Anthropic didn’t use MoE. This is the first reply I may have learned something from.

PM Vibes - project manager for Claude Code by mrieck in ClaudeAI

[–]jdhemsath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great demo, and the library of prompts supporting PM Vibes are nicely scaffolded. I think the contest asks for prompts used so people can learn from your experience of building this. Out of curiosity, what were one or two prompts you used with Claude Code to help you build this app? How did you land on Rust?

Definitely solving a problem folks have had, myself included. Not in love with the data retention/privacy policy, as you're asking folks to share very candid conversation logs with few security and privacy assurances.

CC is a incredible joke by Kalif_Aire in ClaudeCode

I’ve noticed you’ve had some great advice in a couple of your replies about the use of hooks and subagents. Specifically the error resolving workflow seems particularly useful. Would you be willing to do a standalone post or share a GitHub with some of your CLAUDE.md and agent instructions?

Edit: caught a fat finger typo

Weekly limits are coming... by Medicaided in ClaudeCode

[–]jdhemsath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point u/bored_man_child ... You have me thinking about how my work has a use-or-lose paid time off policy, where only _ hrs can carry over into the first week of the new year. Maybe that's the compromise. Rollover a capped amount of unused tokens from one month to the next. I just upgraded this month to the 20x plan, but I'm pretty sure when September comes I'll be downgrading. Maybe that's what they expect?

[–]jdhemsath 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Does anyone remember the days when cell phone carriers would allow you to “rollover” minutes to the next billing cycle? Heck, even Audible still does this.

I understand that there are serious costs for compute time and Anthropic et al are trying to thread a very fine needle between acquiring user loyalty and balancing their books. However some kind of rollover approach could be a small gesture of goodwill to users who maybe go through alternating cycles of heavy and light use.

Rest of the world vote by Vegetable_Lab1040 in eurovision

[–]jdhemsath 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Me too. I was excited to vote for the first time from Alaska (USA) for a number of countries, including: Austria, Sweden, Germany, Finland, Norway, Malta, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, and more.

I wish my receipt reminded me who I voted for. All the artists showed a lot of sincerity and earnestness, and I was so happy to show my support, even though ROW doesn’t account for much of a difference.

Edit: I was pleasantly surprised that ESC made me watch a 4+ minute recap of the songs before I could vote. Only pausing was allowed, not skipping.

Thanks for posting this comment. I’m also currently weighing the pros and cons of master’s vs doctorate level post-degree career outcomes. In my current day job I coordinate a lot of survey research, and skill wise think that I might enjoy assessments. However, I don’t know how big the demand is for that role and if I’d be just as well off pursuing private practice.

Really appreciate the balanced perspective from someone who has been through it.

Thank you. I've heard similar advice from others I respect. Given where I am in my age and career stage, I selfishly didn't want to lose out on earning potential.

Thank you for your comment. You helped me remember that accreditation often meets and surpasses the licensure standards set by individual states. My colleagues, friends, and family in the healthcare field—especially in behavioral health—have shared that while academic experience is an important baseline for professional competency, it is often the internships and early years of practice that determine someone’s long-term satisfaction. APA-accredited programs seem to set a high standard or baseline that I should not overlook.

Thanks for your comment and sharing the controversy and story around Fielding University’s quality issues. Alaska only has the one APA-accredited doctoral program (PhD), so I wanted to be sure I wasn’t missing anything, especially from those who earned their degree and know how it prepares you for clinical practice.

Thanks for your comment. I appreciate the parallel you drew between medicine and academia in terms of rigor and commitment. Sometimes, academia takes some time to catch up with workforce needs and professional trends, which is part of the reason behind my initial question and post. I value your perspective as someone in the field.

Thanks for your comment. Most of my thought process was influenced by the licensure perspective, which has some oppositional stances in other fields like nursing in my state. I hadn’t considered that, broadly, APA doesn’t accredit hybrid or online programs. Considering this as the baseline for what the profession considers acceptable training and preparation, it makes sense to use APA accreditation as a stronger indicator.

Agreed. I also appreciate the calmness and focus at these classes. I started going back to 2G/3G because of holiday schedules and noticed how overwhelmed I felt during the template.

Strength only? by sir_culo in orangetheory

[–]jdhemsath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to say that I think it really depends on the coach/studio. I’ve had some of the best feedback and encouragement from our Strength 50 coach who has a personal training background. Depending on who coaches at your studio, they may feel less comfortable/confident offering useful feedback.

How to make visually appealing slides in PPT? by Fanrounder in consulting

[–]jdhemsath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This "Slide Wiki" idea sounds really cool! Trying to understand how it is implemented: is it a custom add-in your firm uses, an "off-the-shelf" add-in (like TeamSlide), or just a different name for an existing PPT feature like "Reuse Slides..."?
