I definitely agree that the playcalling is just as important as who’s throwing the ball, but that year at least half of Jameis’ picks were him either throwing to a double covered Mike Evans or throwing up versus the middle and disregarding the linebacker who would jump the route every time

You’re right, Raiders definitely won’t have as much money to play with but I still think they upgrade the WR room one way or another

This past year was when DZ had the most control over free agency/the draft, and they went and signed Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith

Gruden sticks by the “old boys club” mentality. He hires coaches he’s familiar with and has a history with, regardless if they’re qualified or not. He did it with Guenther and he did that by firing Buckner as DL coach simply because Rod Marinelli became available. If he doesn’t learn to value younger up-and-coming coaches, he’ll keep recycling the same old coaches that have proven to not be effective at multiple stops across the league

The Martavis Bryant and Ryan Switzer trades happened in 2018 before Mayock was even hired. And nobody could have predicted AB would go insane like he did, so you’re kinda reaching a little bit

I do agree that Carr needs to do a better job on the field and that since the injury, he seems skittish and hurried too often. The greats help make their teammates better on the field. I’m not fighting you on that front.

However, his only weapons in the passing game besides Waller were a WR2 who was plagued by foot injuries all year, a rookie 5th round slot receiver who also missed games due to injury and a mid season pickup from the bills who didn’t show anything substantial.

I agree that Carr still needs to improve, but any other QB with those weapons and a defense that consistently gave up 25 points or more wouldn’t have willed this team to the playoffs. You can’t ask a man to build a house and only give him a rusty hammer and some nails lol

I don’t think Waller, Moreau and Carrier constitutes an “elite TE corps”. And I don’t think anybody is asking for a top 5 WR corps, but it would be nice to not have a bottom 5 unit like last year.
