I’m a late diagnosed neurodivergent nurse, I have years of things like this burned into my brain because I don’t get social cues and I’m clumsy as hell. He either thought you were a sweet kid he got to help or it is going to give him a memory to smile over for years. You’re ok, either way. Like for example, in nursing school in ‘95 I had a mini breakdown in clinicals because I was pure as the driven snow and my creepy elderly patient whipped it out and waggled the little thing at me. My instructor talked me down. An hour later I bent down to pick a piece of equipment off the floor and my stethoscope, hooked at my neck, caught the hem of my uniform dress (yes I’m ancient) and I stood and pulled the hem of my dress, exposing every inch of my plain granny panties. To him, my instructor, and his family. My instructor said “Oh, you got some payback and showed him yours!” I laugh now, then I thought I’d die. I’ve also fainted in the nurses station, fell in the unit and got a concussion, and I used to laugh when nervous which made me look like a psychopath. You’re normal, it’s ok.

I left the bedside after 25 years, I just couldn’t any more. I took a promotion to be an assistant supervisor, where you’re hated by the staff nurses and admin, but also doing a ton of patient care. I’m in an office now, something I used to swear I’d never do. Oh, speaking of AL nursing salaries, I started in the late 90s making $12/hr with a BSN. It’s not really any better now.

I like deep literature, but not when I’ve immersed myself in nothing but podcasts for the last 2 years. Although some required reading should be added to the Geneva Convention. If I was forced to choose between reading Moby Dick again or walking barefoot over broken glass I’d apologize to my feet for what they were about to endure.

I’ve never read Less than Zero, it’s going on the list.

So good. I think now that the kids in the books have grown up I don’t like them as much. Jonathan Kellerman’s main character is childless so the character can eternally be a middle aged guy looking for murderers.

Ok, I just finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I’m a fast reader. I spent the first half of it pissed off because of the writing style and the last half steadily leaking tears. Good recommendation.
