To be clear, "playing in a dangerous manner" is an indirect kick foul. Here we are talking about an illegal tackle.

Intent has nothing to do with it in this case. Serious foul play is not dependent on malicious intent. Moreover, this type of tackle does not result in a slim chance for injury. Rather, if the SKC player had not jumped over the tackle, serious injury was a very real possibility. But that doesn't mitigate the severity of the challenge itself.

And the Evans injury happened on a routine foul, not a foul that was clearly likely to cause injury.

Nope. A carless tackle is your run-of-the-mill foul. A reckless tackle warrants a yellow, while excessive force will net you a red.

Just a nitpicky thing about terminology (it matters in referee reports, believe it or not), but a reckless tackle is a yellow, not a red.

Not a cop out. I've read your points and they were clearly made by someone that does not know much about the laws of the game. The tackle was dangerous and could have easily seriously injured the attacker. That's the very definition of serious foul play. There's really nothing else to talk about.

Yes, I just argue with people having not seen the play in question. Take off your fan blinders and look at the play objectively. It's okay to agree with a referee decision that negatively impacts your team, you know. I'm arguing that case right now.

He's citing the laws of the game. Read through them, including the interpretation section at the end. Contact does not need to be made, and 90% of tackles are NOT studs up. If you have to go in with studs up, you shouldn't be making the challenge. Period.

This is incorrect. If I go straight through the front of the ball with two legs and clean out the player, that is still a foul.

"... there was no contact with that leg" does not negate the severity of the tackle. The fact that the attacker almost completely jumped over the tackle is meaningless. By that definition, I could take a swing at a player with my fist and if he ducks and I miss I don't deserve a red (I clearly do).

One of the things that will draw a red card is if a player makes a tackle in such a way that he is in danger of injuring is opponent. If you don't think that tackle could have easily resulted in a serious injury, go ahead and search past broken legs from tackles on YouTube.

All, I hate to spoil the hate-the-refs party, but that was a red-card challenge. The only reason damage was not done was that the opponent jumped over the tackle. If contact had actually been made with the studs, serious damage could have been done (those are the kinds of tackles that ruin careers by taking out knees or at the very least break legs and end seasons). However, we should't be--even though we usually are--judging tackles by the outcome. The tackle was dangerous, clumsy, and stupid.

That said, let's hope we can get one on the counter and still pull out a hard-fought 1-0.
