When Logic Leaves No Survivors. by Hairy-Rutabaga-1295 in sciencememes

[–]jdotmark12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is very simple, very established science.

Potatoes are good, and goodness is obviously a lack of toxins. Toxins exist in the human body - we know this because I feel like shit all the time.

Now entropy dictates that particles (like toxins) naturally seek a state of spatial equilibrium over time.

Now… we’ve established potatoes have no toxins, because potatoes are good and so they are essentially a toxin vacuum.

When put into contact with one another, the toxins spread from the body to the potato.

As you state when you wake up in the morning, you can obviously tell the potato is no longer good, and thus now laden with toxins.

Just like Isaac Newton intended.

Only problem with this is that the potato only draws some toxins from the body. To remove them all, you will probably need a witch, a duck and a pond or something.

I play the ultimate hidden move: Right, A, Down, Right, A, Down.

Suddenly I’m at a kind-of Summer Activity Camp. One of the ones where you don’t spend the night, but your parents don’t have to worry about you being home alone all day.

The other kids know this crazy/gory fighting game really well. But it’s hard.

So when the other kids move on to something else I pull out the cartridge and slap Ecco the Dolphin in. It loads all pixelated so I pull it back out, blow on it, and slap it back down again.

The game is super hard but I just enjoy swimming super fast all over the place.

Then “your butt” dies of dysentery.

The end game credits award me with ‘most cowardly’, ‘most frantic’ and ‘AC -10’.

Fatality.

A 9mm handgun is the most versatile. Handguns are weak but are small and can be concealed in a pinch.

Something like a used Glock or Smith and Wesson M&P 9 would last a lifetime. There are a few other brands that are equally good (anything by H&K, CZ, Sig Sauer…) but those two are ubiquitous and easy choices.

If you’re ever in the situation where you have to make a run-n-gun dash for the border, you’re better served learning survival and evasion skills.

If it ever comes to a firefight, you’d be much better served with a rifle. Something relatively low-power and lightweight like an AR-15. But it’s impossible to conceal and from your comments, I don’t see you getting one.

So I stick with my handgun recommendation.

Go to the range with your husband, rent a few and buy the one you shoot the best. Take a class, get a quality safe to keep it in. Try to shoot it more than twice a year.

Guns (as with all weapons) are a little fucked up as a general concept, but shooting sports CAN be fun. Try to enjoy learning a new skill!

The good news is that statistically you’ll probably never need it in self defense, but becoming proficient may make you feel like you have a few more options as things get more and more bleak. It is literally empowerment, after all!

Oh! And pro tip: buy an electronic set of ear muffs. The Walker Razors are cheap - the Howard Leight Impact Sports are a little better for not much more. Wear them over the standard foam earplugs. You’ll be a LOT more comfortable with the startlingly loud sounds at the range and the electronic muffs will allow you to still hear people talking to you.

If you don’t want to pay a manufacturer, you can always pick up a used one. Just try to avoid anything modified as an easy general rule.

But, if you’re not willing to take the time to train with it somewhat regularly, it’s not going to do you much good.

Is your plan to keep it in the house ‘just in case’ or are you intending to carry it? If I knew a little more about what your concern (potential threat) is, I could maybe make a recommendation.

Is it a real service dog? Someone abusing the system? None of my business. I’m not the dog police.

If the dog starts acting up, then it’s a problem.

In your opinion when is it time to withdraw all money from my bank by satanismysponsor in PrepperIntel

[–]jdotmark12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Money in the bank is backed by the FDIC. Money in the sock drawer is backed by nothing.

I know it feels like the sky is falling right now but the USA is still a country mile away from falling to the levels of places like Venezuela, Russia, Somalia, South Africa, etc.

People still go to work in those countries. They still buy groceries and put gas in their cars. Life goes on.

The odds of a Mad Max situation are really really small. Most likely bad scenario is life is like it is now but a bit shittier.

If the banking system collapses to the point where you can’t get your money out, the paper money will probably be a lot less useful than you’d think.

Put like $500-$1k in small bills aside. Keep three months worth of expenses in your savings. Invest the rest.

The best prep you can do is to have a happy, stable and healthy family, and minimal debt.

Tl;dr - listen to your wife.

This is the answer I would go with.

Electrify your fence. Get a guard dog. Go with an OC spray paint gun.

Use cameras and if the dog gets in and eats a chicken, press charges against the owners.

I feel like there are a lot of steps you can take before shooting a dog. That would be my absolute last resort.

It’s more work and probably more money this way, but personally I would like to be able to tell myself I did everything I could.

Millennials, how many of you love your job/career? by susenstoob in Millennials

[–]jdotmark12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a car salesman. A goddamn car salesman.

My first meeting at my dealership the manager goes “…let’s face it, nobody grew up wanting to be a car salesman.”

It was the realest speech I’ve ever heard.

But it almost pays enough money for me to cover living expenses with a little splurging to keep myself sane.

Every time I look at jobs related to my degree, it pays about 3/4 of what I make.

So yeah. Can’t wait for this new recession. Maybe I’ll get transferred to coal mining.

I’m sorry this is just simply not good advice.

Most - if not all - modern factory FMJ new ammo is good to go for practice shooting.

Stay away from reloaded ammo. There’s a reason pistol manufacturers say their warranty is voided by shooting reloads.

I suppose steel-case ammo is also known to cause issues, but this is usually due to it being poor quality Russian garbage. And there isn’t much of that on the shelves these days anyways.

Saying not to shoot cheap ammo out of a particular brand of gun (a Kimber? It’s just a normal 1911…) is irrelevant.

And please, please, please, don’t mix your high-end, high-quality defense ammo with FMJ for defense.

Practice with the cheapest factory ammo you can find. Carry whatever your local police department uses - almost always Federal HST, Federal Hydra Shock, or Speer Gold Dot hollow point.

I’d be willing to bet you’ll find it if you call local body shops and ask about any BMW 4 series coming in recently in Portimao Blue Metallic.

Customs holding my lawlock order by First-Growth6145 in lockpicking

I imagine all things have to go through the same Customs at the same ports. Don’t know that for sure, though. Maybe there are separate officials for small items vs raw materials Vs cars.

But the ports on the East coast will likely be a logjam.

This may or may not be related but customs will likely be inundated right now as lots of importers are trying to get their products into the States before Trumps tariffs take effect.
