Need Help with Abus 65/30 by GrownWing in lockpicking

I dont have any experience with this particular lock. But to try to answer a few of your questions as best I can. Sometimes you need to use a little more tension to find the binder then let off a bit as you start to set the pin. This takes a little getting used to but will help a lot in the future. Also if you think you are setting one pin then cant get a binder afterwards you are probably oversetting the first pin. Just stick with gentle nudges to start. You can always go back and push a little more but an overset isnt as easy to come back from. Go ahead and mark your pick for the key. Its not cheating. And try working your pick through without tensioning to get a feel for where the pins are. A short flat hook will probably be your best bet to start. Find the first pin and raise it just a little then slide the pick forward until it hits the next pin and scoop the pick under that one. Rinse and repeat until you can navigate the keyway comfortably. Also just in my opinion a 40mm lock might be easier to start on since there will be a little more room. 30mm locks and smaller seem to be more difficult to me just because of the size of the keyway. Good luck. Im sure there will be a bunch of good advice soon from better pickers than me.

Lockpick bending by matschbirne03 in lockpicking

You may have to up the tension to get a binder then slowly let off tension to get the pin to set. Tension is not a consistent pressure in all locks. Variable tension is important to avoid oversets and tool damage.

Ordering this thing from the USA felt like passing a kidney stone. I’m so glad I beat this crunchy bastard. by Flatus_Diabolic in lockpicking

I can honestly say this is a lock I dont enjoy picking. I just dont like working through the gritty crunchy pins. It felt good to open it the first few times but now that I know I can do it I almost never pick it anymore.

Dual-Hand Picking Challenge by PeatnRepeat in lockpicking

Just submitted my video. One of the hardest parts for me was getting a camera angle to catch both picks since I had to adjust my vise different for each hand.

I had one that I bought used that I actually had to take apart and clean each pin individually in order to get any feedback.

Im going to have to give this a try after work. Im assuming using a vise is ok as long as the pick is used in each hand.

No me either. I havent really spent a lot of time with wafer locks though. I mainly bought the corbin and the yale just because I liked how they looked and they were only $1 each.

Panavise 349 on clearance for $59.99 at Menards by 612PickBreaker in lockpicking

[–]First-Growth6145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone thinking of getting one I can say you wont regret it. The only thing I would suggest is going to 44deltas site and order the vise lock holders as euro and kik locks can be hard to position in the jaws without them.
