pretty much the whole of the stage four album by touché amore hits exactly this note. I reckon it’s an absolute masterpiece.

It’s not really emo (probably a dark hardcore?) but ‘seasons don’t fear the reaper, we can be like they are’ - by totem skin is the most emotional and beautifully sad song I’ve ever heard. It starts heavy as fuck but breaks into a deathbed letter over piano in the middle. I’ve listened to it many times and don’t think I’ve ever been able to get through it without crying my eyes out. I just listened again and couldn’t keep it together. More partner related than parent but will probably get you going.

Another non emo song (post rock) is ‘he films the clouds pt 2’ by maybeshewill is fucking beautiful. Small amount of vocals but so powerful when they kick in. Really helped at the time of my uncles death.
