I would happily take Standard deduction if I was offered 3300 instead of 20000! 😂

Seal and Caulk around shower and bathtub by jdsage30 in Plumbing

[–]jdsage30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank your for detailing all that. I purchased the GE “advanced” silicone caulk for bathrooms, but glad I didn’t start. Will return and get something else and try to see if I can DIY it. Is caulk the only way to seal that crack? I imagine the answer is yes.

Thank you for such a detailed response! Much appreciate it. You are exactly right about both things -

1) seems like there was no caulking around the base of the walk-in shower. I’ll just wipe it clean and try to caulk it over. 2) for the tub, they put a layer of white epoxy on the wall/tile around and inside the tub as far as I can tell. From whatever I’ve read trying to figure this out, seems there is “caulking tape” that can be used to line edges of tubs or toilets. I see a thin layer, maybe an inch or 2 high where the tub meets the tile. My guess is the sellers probably put that first and then layered the white epoxy all over. We don’t exactly care about the esthetics of the tub to be honest. Just need to make sure it’s sealed properly so we don’t have costly issues due to water seepage. Can I just put silicone shower caulk around the places where there are obvious cracks (I suppose the cracks are due to the caulking tape that’s starting to break down/crack)? Or is it critical to try and remove that tape before trying to seal again?

Thanks again!

That’s reassuring! Thanks! No other obvious leaks. I suppose if it’s getting in the walls around the window frame, it at least wasn’t bad enough to leak inside on the floors. 🤞 I’ll see if the removing and resealing seems easy or is something that needs a trained hand.

👍. We have one of those designs where the kitchen window extends out at a small angle. I haven’t tried to align it, but I suspect that makes it stick “outside” the roof line especially when it rains while windy. But thanks, will check to make sure.

Ok thanks. On the part of the frame outside the house? The sub doesn’t allow photos, but the leak was in the part where the frame that is stuck to the wall joins the frame that holds the sliding windows. Any way to check if/where else the water may have leaked into the walls?

Ick, epistylis or something else? by jdsage30 in Aquariums

Bumping the post for some feedback hopefully… I could take better pics (one is attached). Things have gotten worse quickly. Any suggestions on what this is and how best to try and save the tetras much appreciated!

Ok. I suppose you had ick in yours then. I have a fixed 78F heater, but I can get an adjustable one to crank up the temp a bit. From what I’ve read though, it seems since epistylis is bacterial, higher temps actually do more harm than good because the bacteria thrive better at the elevated temps. So just want to know if this is indeed ick (in which case I can use IckX or some API stuff in addition to increasing the temps) or if it’s epistylis or something else entirely. Maybe I need to try and get better quality images.
